    • A method for forming a biodegradable aliphatic-aromatic copolyester suitable for use in fibers is provided. In one embodiment, for example, an aliphatic-aromatic copolyester is melt blended with an alcohol to initiate an alcoholysis reaction that results in a copolyester having one or more hydroxyalkyl or alkyl terminal groups. By selectively controlling the alcoholysis conditions (e.g., alcohol and copolymer concentrations, catalysts, temperature, etc.), a modified aliphatic-aromatic copolyester may be achieved that has a molecular weight lower than the starting aliphatic-aromatic polymer. Such lower molecular weight polymers also have the combination of a higher melt flow index and lower apparent viscosity, which is useful in a wide variety of fiber forming applications, such as in the meltblowing of nonwoven webs.

    • Methods of making polymer resin/dispersed modifier compositions are provided. The polymer resin/dispersed modifier compositions have improved melt processability and properties and may be used to thermally process films, fibers, and articles having improved properties. In one embodiment, the polymer resin/dispersed modifier compositions are further grafted with one or more monomers, which graft onto the polymer resin and/or the dispersed modifier. In a further embodiment, the polymer resin is a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer, such as polyethylene oxide; the modifier is a styrene butadiene polymer, a carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymer, or a combination thereof; and the grafted monomer is poly(ethylene glycol) ethyl ether methacrylate, poly(ethylene glycol)ethyl ether acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEG-MA), or a mixture thereof. The grafted PEO/dispersed modifier compositions have improved properties compared to unmodified polyethylene oxide compositions, and modified polyethylene oxide compositions.

    • A computer system having a processor and at least one peripheral has a programmable shared memory system and method that selectively dedicates a first potion of memory to use by the processor and allocates a second portion of memory to shared use by the processor and any peripherals in the system. The programmable memory architecture is implemented using a dual bus architecture having a first-bus connected to the processor and a second bus coupled to the processor by a system controller and to the peripherals by a peripheral controller. The programmable memory architecture additionally has a configuration controller coupled to each configurable memory bank in the system. Each configuration controller is additionally coupled to both the first and second buses. Under programmed control, the each configuration controller couples the associated memory to either the first or second bus, responsive to configuration information stored in the system controller. Memory coupled to the first bus operates as dedicated processor memory and memory coupled to the second bus operates as shared memory, accessible by the processor and any peripherals in the system.
