    • A calibration apparatus and method for a color printer that allows a user to calibrate a printer without the use of expensive measuring instruments and prior user training is provided. The calibration process prints out two target layouts. On the first target the user selects the primary inks start and end points (highlights and shadows), and the black ink only input value that generates a 30% gray. The primary inks are the device-dependent colorants, cyan, magenta and yellow. The second target compares the 30% black ink with grays made of a combination of cyan, magenta and yellow inks. The user selects the best match in an iterative process. Using this data, calculations are made of the corrections to the original input signal values for the printer. A look up table is updated with corrected input values to compensate for the printer deviation from its standard behavior.

    • A method of reducing flicker in video is described. The method includes the steps of: determining an initial target frame color channel statistic value (Rt,Gt,Bt) based on at least the current video frame information; for each subsequent frame, determining a current frame color channel statistic value (Rc,Gc,Bc); for each subsequent video frame, updating the target frame color channel statistic value (Rt,Gt,Bt) based on at least the current video frame information, wherein the target value changes at a slower rate than the flicker frequency of the video frame; and for each color channel of each subsequent video frame, individually adjusting the current pixel values so that the current frame color channel static value (Rc,Gc,Bc) matches the target frame color channel statistic value (Rt,Gt,Bt).

    • Methods and systems that reduce video crosstalk in video streams sent between participants in a video conference are disclosed. In one aspect, a method for reducing video crosstalk in a video stream sent from a local site to a remote site includes projecting a video stream of the remote site onto a screen at the local site. Each image in the video stream is dimmed according to a dimming factor of a dimming sequence. Crosstalk images of the local site are captured through the screen. Each crosstalk image is a blending of the image of the local site captured through the screen with a dimmed image of the remote site projected onto the screen. Images of the local site with reduced crosstalk are computed based on the dimming sequence. A video stream composed of the images of the local site with reduced crosstalk are sent to the remote site.

    • Various method and system embodiments of the present invention are directed to computational estimation of a tempo for a digitally encoded musical selection. In certain embodiments of the present invention, described below, a short portion of a musical selection is analyzed to determine the tempo of the musical selection. The digitally encoded musical selection sample is computationally transformed to produce a power spectrum corresponding to the sample, in turn transformed to produce a two-dimensional strength-of-onset matrix. The two-dimensional strength-of-onset matrix is then transformed into a set of strength-of-onset/time functions for each of a corresponding set of frequency bands. The strength-of-onset/time functions are then analyzed to find a most reliable onset interval that is transformed into an estimated tempo returned by the analysis.
