摘要： An improved underdrain block for an underdrain system supporting a filter media bed in a liquid filtration system is provided. The underdrain blocks are preferably made of an extrudable polymeric material that is extruded in relatively long sections to provide light weight, strong, easily manufactured underdrain systems having a lower profile than prior art underdrain blocks. The underdrain block comprises an upper wall, side walls, a lower wall, at least one lateral member between the upper wall and the lower wall, at least two chambers within the underdrain block, each chamber being defined by the lateral member, a plurality of upper orifices in the upper wall of the underdrain block, and a plurality of internal orifices in the lateral member. The underdrain block is substantially greater in longitudinal length than a longitudinal distance between the upper orifices. In one embodiment, the underdrain block has rails situated on the upper wall for engaging extruded members, which in turn, have receiving recesses for receiving a layer of porous filter media. In another embodiment, the underdrain block further comprises an air nozzle for achieving an improved distribution of air through a filter bed during air backwashing.

Preferably, the headloss of the settling assembly is solely controlled by one or more orifices formed in the settling members, i.e., the settling assembly is free of gaps formed between the settling members that appreciably affect the headloss of the settling system. Support members are provided for each of the settling members to allow the settling members to be easily and readily removed. Preferably, the support members provide sufficient stability to allow an individual to walk on the tops of the settling members. Preferably, the support members are configured to enhance clarification or filtration. It is also preferred that the support members and settling members be configured to permit the settling members to be readily and easily connected to the corresponding support member.

摘要： An aspect of the present invention is directed to an apparatus and method for treating and disposing of wastewater produced by a facility. This aspect of the present invention is particularly well suited to manage and dispose of wastewater produced by an agricultural processing facility. Treated wastewater is selectively blended with untreated wastewater of the facility and the blended mixture is provided to a disposal unit for disposal. Another aspect of the present invention is directed to a system for maximizing the efficiency of an impurity removal unit designed to remove at least one impurity from a liquid. More specifically, this system is preferably designed to blend influent entering the impurity removal unit with another source of liquid to ensure that the liquid treated by the impurity removal unit has an impurity concentration approximately equal to the maximum impurity concentration that the impurity removal unit can satisfactorily process.
