    • In an automatic brake booster, a sleeve 18 constituting a valve mechanism 15 has a drive portion 50 disposed on the front side, a valve portion 51 forming a second valve seat 19, a mating portion 52 for mating with a valve seat portion when the drive portion is moved forward, and a conical spring 53 disposed between the drive portion and the valve seat portion and used for separating both members from each other. The conical spring is compressed during the normal braking operation so as to make the opening amount of the second valve seat greater than that during the automatic braking operation. Moreover, a plate plunger 40 for transmitting braking counterforce is relatively displaceably provided and a first member 71 and a second member 71 for mutually contacting a reaction disc 41 is also provided, so that the braking counterforce of the first member is transmitted to the sleeve during the automatic braking operation.

    • According to the invention, the booster is not provided with a brake reaction transmission mechanism, and hence a reaction cannot be transmitted to a brake pedal. On the other hand, a pseudo-reaction imparting means is provided to impart a pseudo-reaction of suitable magnitude which depends on the degree of depression of the brake pedal. The pseudo-reaction imparting means is arranged so that when the brake pedal is depressed relatively rapidly, a relatively smaller braking reaction is imparted than during a usual depression. With this arrangement, the transmission of an abnormally high braking reaction to a driver which is experienced in a conventional booster during a quick braking operation due to an operational rag of the booster is avoided. The pseudo-reaction imparting means allows a reaction of a suitable magnitude which depends on the rate of depression of the brake pedal by a driver to be imparted, thus permitting a high output to be obtained with a reduced force of depression during a quick braking operation.

    • To set the drop-out detection level constant in the drop-out detecting circuit used for a magnetic recording apparatus, without regulating the output level of a magnetic recording head and the gain of a preamplifier, the detecting circuit comprises an envelope detection section for detecting the envelope of a reproduced signal; a voltage division section for dividing the output signal voltage of the envelope detection section; and a comparator for comparing the output signal of the voltage division section with the reproduced signal to detect a drop-out of the reproduced signal. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the number of parts and the number of adjustment process to reduce the manufacturing cost thereof. Further, to detect the drop-out portion throughout as defective tape locations, irrespective of the length of the drop-out portion, the detecting circuit further comprises a drop-out start detection section, a drop-out end detection section, and an OR gate.
