    • A realtime computer-based viewing system comprising a database of first software objects in registration with one another, wherein at least one of the first software objects corresponds to a physical structure which is to be viewed by the system and at least one of the first software objects corresponds to a graft which is to be deployed adjacent to the physical structure, an endoscope for acquiring data about the physical structure when the physical structure is located within the endoscope's data acquisition field, wherein the endoscope is capable of being moved about relative to the physical structure, generating apparatus for generating a second software object using data acquired by the endoscope, wherein the second software object corresponds to the physical structure currently being viewed by the endoscope, registration apparatus for positioning the second software object into the database in proper registration with the first software objects already contained in the database, and processing apparatus for generating an image from the software objects contained in the database, based upon a specified point of view.

    • An anatomical visualization system includes a first database that includes a plurality of 2-D slice images generated by scanning a structure. The 2-D slice images are stored in a first data format. A second database is also provided that comprises a 3-D computer model of the scanned structure. The 3-D computer model includes a first software object that is defined by a 3-D geometry database. Apparatus are provided for inserting a second software object into the 3-D computer model so as to augment the 3-D computer model. The second software object is defined by a 3-D geometry database, and includes a planar surface. Apparatus for determining the specific 2-D slice image associated with the position of the planar surface of the second software object within the augmented 3-D computer model are provided. Also provided are apparatus for texture mapping the specific 2-D slice image onto the planar surface of the second software object. Display apparatus are provided for displaying an image of the augmented 3-D computer model so as to simultaneously provide a view of the first software object and the specific 2-D slice image texture mapped onto the planar surface of the second software object.

    • Improved cellulose semipermeable hollow fibers useful in detoxifying blood during hemodialysis or hemofiltration treatments. The cellulose fibers are fine, capillary fibers that are made by melt extrusion of certain cellulose ester polyol melt spin compositions into self-supporting gelled fibers. The cellulose ester gelled fibers are subsequently chemically converted into cellulose fibers by deacetylation, in aqueous alkali solution. The product fibers exhibit improved wet intrinsic tensile strength and higher water permeability characteristics than heretofore known cellulose fibers made from cellulose ester spin compositions.The invention includes the method of making the improved fibers and separatory cells such as hemodialyzers or hemofilters which contain the improved fibers in a gamma ray sterilized condition.
