摘要： The present invention provides compounds and methods that can be used to convert the intermediate halomethyl ketones (HMKs), e.g., chloromethyl ketones, to the corresponding S,S- and R,S-diastereomers. More particularly, the present invention provides: (1) reduction methods; (2) inversion methods; and (3) methods involving the epoxidation of alkenes. Using the various methods of the present invention, the R,S-epoxide and the intermediary compounds can be prepared reliably, in high yields and in high purity.

摘要： The present invention provides a new process for the preparation of 2S,3S-N-isobutyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-amino-4-phenylbutyl)-p-nitrobenzenesulfonylamide hydrochloride, wherein this compound is prepared directly from the chloromethylalcohol. Importantly, the process of the present invention results in higher yields of 2S,3S-N-isobutyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-amino-4-phenylbutyl)-p-nitrobenzenesulfonylamide hydrochloride without sacrificing its purity. The processes of the present invention can be used to prepare not only the 2S,3S-derivative, but also the 2R,3S-, 2S,2R- and the 2R,3R-derivatives.

摘要： The invention provides a hydrometallurgical process for treating metal-containing sulfide ores and concentrates, comprising reacting said metal-containing sulfide with concentrated sulfuric acid at a temperature of between about 300° C. and 400° C. in the presence of oxygen to produce a solid metal sulfate product and a gaseous product which is primarily SO3, wherein said metal is selected from the group consisting of iron, copper, zinc, nickel, cobalt and manganese. Said metal sulfate product is then leached with dilute sulfuric acid to form a metal-containing solution, from which the metal values are separated by precipitation at raised H2SO4 concentrations obtained by saturating the solution with the gaseous SO3 from the sulfatization reaction step.

A purported skin site of an individual is illuminated under distinct optical conditions during a single illumination session for a fixed position of the purported skin site. Light from the purported skin site is received for each of the optical conditions. Images of the purported skin site are generated from the received light. The images are analyzed to identify a biometric feature as a characteristic in a portion of at least one of the images. The biometric function is implemented in accordance with an identification of the biometric feature.

The farebox can be installed in a temporary installation at a fare collection location for the collection of fares and can be removed to a secure location for emptying and reconciliation. The farebox can include an integral collection box for receiving fares deposited in the farebox. The farebox can be configured such that the collected fares can be emptied only when the farebox is removed from the temporary installation to reduce tampering and theft. A fare validator can be used to verify the amount and value of a fare deposited in the farebox to eliminate human validation of fares. Electronic monitors can collect data relating to fares deposited, total revenue collected, time of fare collection, and other data items that can be retrieved when the farebox is removed and emptied.

摘要： A sterile barrier is provided for use with a slit lamp. The slit lamp has a proximal handle and a distal light slit transmitting window. The sterile barrier comprises a flexible tubular membrane having a first end, a second end, and an opening therebetween. The opening may be larger adjacent the first end than a handle of the slit lamp. A resilient band is attached to the first end of the tubular membrane. The first end and resilient band in a resiliently expanded configuration are sufficiently large to receive the handle proximally therethrough. The resilient band in the relaxed configuration will releasably restrain the sterile barrier from moving proximally off the handle.
