    • The invention relates to a method of and a system for controlling the operation of open-end spinning machines comprising a plurality of spinning units, which method is based upon a permanent cyclic communication of a central unit of the system with the individual spinning units. According to the invention, at a given instant, a single spinning unit only is connected to the central unit of the control system, said central unit being supplied with information data about the condition of the spinning unit connected thereto while said central unit simultaneously transmits instructions for said spinning unit, the other spinning units operating automatically on the basis of the stored instruction the validity of which lasts for the time of one control cycle.

    • Method of and apparatus for operating an open end spinning machine having a plurality of spinning units each including a sliver feeding device, a fiber separating device, a twist forming element, a yarn taking-off device, yarn winding device and a reversing mechanism for returning the yarn end back into the twist forming element. The twist forming element and the fiber separating device are set in operation; thereafter the fiber feeding is started simultaneously with the yarn end reverse travel to return same into the twist forming element in which a fibrous ribbon is formed of the fibers supplied. After spinning-in said yarn end with said fibrous ribbon the yarn is again set into a forward operative travel.

    • An arrangement for tensioning the end of an inserted weft for beat-up of the weft into a fell by a rotary reed is described. An elongated weft-gripping mechanism is movable forwardly opposite the direction of movement of the portion of the reed which engages the weft being inserted along an axis oblique to the rotary reed into a frontmost position where it engages a weft carried by each of a succession of weft inserters as soon as the inserter has moved past the end of the reed into which the weft has just been inserted. A pair of jaws on the outer end of the gripping mechanism then close to grip the engaged weft and to move it rearwardly into a securing position between a thrust plate and a toothed, weft-guiding disc coaxial with the rotary reed. After the weft is secured, the jaws of the gripping means open and the gripping mechanism is moved forwardly again to grip the next weft.

    • A travelling-wave loom is provided with a pair of endless chains which respectively carry a plurality of weft inserters and a plurality of winding units for feeding weft threads from associated bobbins to the weft inserters. The chain carrying the winding unit is formed from a plurality of spaced rigid carrier members interconnected by standard links. Each carrier member has a groove for removably receiving the winding head, and when in position a spring-loaded pawl affixed to the carrier member releasably secures the winding head in the groove of such carrier member. Such chain also carries transversely spaced sets of rollers which are individually supported on opposite sides of an oval guide rail. One of the roller sets is spring-loaded to maintain the carrier member in firm contact with the guide surfaces.

    • Open-end spinning unit having two housings connected to each other, a first housing containing a spinning rotor adapted to be supplied through a supply duct with separated fibers carried by an air stream while yarn is withdrawn therefrom through a take-off duct, the second housing containing a sliver supply roller and a combing-out cylinder followed by said fiber supply duct extending through a lid inserted into the spinning rotor and forming a part of said second housing, the spinning rotor being surrounded with an air collecting space adapted to collect the air to be withdrawn from the spinning rotor. The spinning rotor turns about a vertical axis of rotation and is driven by an individual motor through the axis of which the yarn take-off duct extends in an upward direction. The lower front part of the spinning rotor extends into a cavity provided in the top part of said second housing. The combing-out cylinder and the sliver supply roller have horizontal axes of rotation perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the open-end spinning machine. The top of said cavity is covered by said first housing while the cavity forms said air collecting space, a central part of the bottom of said cavity being formed by said lid.
