    • Disclosed is a fusing apparatus for heat fixing toner images onto a receiver medium, the apparatus including: a fuser member including an elastomeric contact surface; a pressure member positioned adjacent the fuser member thereby forming a fusing nip there between to receive the receiver medium; a heater member including a conformable base cushion layer and an outer polymeric layer disposed over the base cushion layer, the heater member being in contact with the fuser and external thereto; and a radiant heat subsystem positioned externally of the heater member to provide heat to the surface of the first heater member which then contacts the fuser member so as to transfer heat thereto. The heater member is adapted to controllably exert pressure on the fuser member in order to controllably transfer heat to the fuser member, thereby providing control over the fusing capabilities of an eletrophotographic process, such as gloss, dwell, and thermal droop. In embodiments, the outer polymeric layer includes a cured fluorocarbon thermoplastic random copolymer having subunits of: null(CH2CF2)x-, null(CF2CF(CF3))y-, and null(CF2CF2)z-, wherein x is from 1 to 50 or 60 to 80 mole percent, y is from 10 to 90 mole percent, z is from 10 to 90 mole percent, and xnullynullz equals 100 mole percent.

    • The present invention uses a concept of Operator Replaceable Component (ORC) devices that allows an operator that is not a skilled field engineer or service technician, to perform maintenance on a digital printer, resulting in significantly higher uptime for the press. The ORC devices employed by the present invention have an expected life span and the system can track the remaining life for each of the ORC devices and prompts the operator when they should be replaced. Preferably, the recent use of the digital printer is compared against the remaining life of the ORC device with the shortest remaining life. The recent use of the digital printer is used to decrement the remaining life of the ORC devices until an ORC device needs replacement. The operator is then notified of the need to replace the ORC device that has expired.

    • An air quality management apparatus for use in a modular electrostatographic color printer. For air quality management a non-air-conditioned open-loop portion is provided for managing quality of air in a first interior volume, and an air-conditioned recirculation portion is provided for managing quality of air in a second interior volume. The first interior volume includes a fusing station for fusing color images on receiver members. The second interior volume includes a number of tandemly arranged image-forming modules, as well as an auxiliary chamber associated with, yet isolated from, each module, such that air-conditioned air flowing through each module does not mix with air-conditioned air supplied to the modules and to devices within the modules. The second interior volume is differentiated from the first interior volume by at least one separating member. The air-conditioning device is for controlling temperature and relative humidity of air included in the second interior volume.

    • A method and apparatus for preventing voltage swings within device outputs from reading output node where swings in excess of certain voltages can harm electronics attached to the output node. Specifically, output swings from devices performing logarithmic operations are prevented from reaching the input of an A/D converter, thereby protecting the A/D converter from the large swings possible in logarithmic outputs. A comparator circuit compares the output from the logarithmic amplifier against a threshold and engages the switching mechanism once the threshold is reached. Once the switching mechanism is engaged it applies a predetermined voltage to the output node in place of the true output voltage from the logarithmic amplifier.
