    • A system and method for wide-area mine clearance employs a plurality of f-containing plastic containers disposed a horizontal distance apart which permits an overlap between adjacent aerosol clouds formed therefrom when explosive bursters are simultaneously detonated within each container. At least one detonation charge is exploded within one of the aerosol clouds following a predetermined time delay for detonating the line of overlapping clouds whereby a line of ground surface is exposed to a fuel-air explosion capable of detonating susceptible mines therein. The distance between adjacent containers and the height each container is suspended above the ground is related to the weight of the liquid fuel contained in each container. In the preferred embodiment, each plastic container is suspended from a tripod having a hook or other means for permitting attachment and detachment of a crane hook whereby the tripod may be positioned over uncleared ground from a location well within cleared ground. The detonation charge may also be suspended from a tripod at a distance from the nearest container which places it well within the cloud therefrom and at a height substantially equal to the height of the centers of the containers.

    • Mine clearing equipment mountable on a vehicle. Two plow sections arranged one above the other in hinged engagement are included in apparatus which mounts on a frame and by which mines are raised and shunted aside. The frame in turn is mountable onto the vehicle in raised or lowered orientation. In the frame raised position, the plow sections are in folded engagement. The raising and shunting aside apparatus is angularly oriented with a forward edge adjacent the vehicle interior and a rearward edge adjacent the vehicle side edge. A chain is attached to the forward edges and plow sections in tension when the plow sections are lowered into their operating orientations to define mine barriers.

    • A tank mountable mine neutralization device including blast transparent wheels which are rotatably mounted upon the distal ends of blast transparent booms. A pneumatic actuator and energy absorbtion system is coupled to the booms to transfer a part of the tank weight onto the wheels and to dissipate any energy absorbed from the mine blast. The wheels are positioned on the ground at a safe distance ahead of the tank for the purpose of pressure actuating land mines over which the wheels roll when the tank advances.

The methods comprising: causing a moving carrier (102) to freely travel linearly in a first direction by discharging at least one recoil producing device (110-114); absorbing an impulse force resulting from discharging the recoil producing device using a spring (122, 124) having a first end coupled to the moving carrier and a second end (130) coupled to a fixed frame member (132); and applying a pulling force by the spring to the moving carrier in a second direction opposed from the first direction at an end of spring travel, whereby a uni-directional force transfer mechanism (610) is caused to engage an elongate latching element so as to latch the moving carrier in position and prevent the moving carrier from freely traveling in the second direction.
