    • A bottle crushing machine having a feed chamber, at the bottom of which is located a crusher disk. The disk includes a set of beater bars extending upward into the feed chamber to intercept falling bottles and initially shatter them. Near the surface of the disk are cross bars that further crush the glass fragments. The disk is situated in a portion of the feed chamber under the upper surface of an expanded portion of the chamber. The only route for glass fragments to exit the chamber is between the disk and the upper surface of the expanded portion, between the side walls of the expanded portion and the outer edge of the disk, to an area below the disk. By relative movement of the disk in the vertical direction, the gap between the disk and the upper surface will be varied, adjusting the size of fragments that are created.

    • A lamp crushing machine comprises a casing which may be divided into upper, central and lower zones. Lamps which are to be disposed of are loaded into the upper zone. In the central zone there is a horizontally mounted drum with a number of radial vanes and possibly also circumferential vanes. When this drum is rotated the lamps are progressively broken by the shearing action of the vanes as they pass close by the edges of walls which project inwardly from the casing. Unbreakable parts such as lamp and caps are carried around the drum in pockets arranged between the vanes. The debris falls into a hopper in the lower zone which can be removed and emptied periodically. Throughout operation of the machine the lamps are doused by water issuing from a nozzle to quench any igniting sodium. Dangerous vapors pass out through special vents and other contaminents are filtered out of the water draining from the machine. The drum can be rotated manually by means of a handle but is preferably rotated rapidly by an electrical motor.

    • An improvement in an apparatus for processing waste products, the improvement making it possible effectively to process cardboard or wooden boxes. The apparatus comprises comminuting means including a motor-driven drum having essentially radially projecting teeth arranged on said drum and an anvil for cooperation with said teeth for comminuting the waste products. In addition hereto, the apparatus comprises a downwardly sloping supply duct for the waste products opening in the housing above the drum, and feeding means arranged at the discharge end of the supply duct, said feeding means being rotated. The improvement of the apparatus is that carrier means comprising pins or pegs are disposed on said feeding means and project radially outwards. Preferably, the feeding means consists of a U-shaped clamp, the portion bridging the legs of the clamp being spaced from and extending in parallel to the axis of rotation of said feeding means, said carrier means being disposed on said portion and projecting radially outwards.

    • Apparatus for destroying medical syringes, or the like articles, comprises a plurality of spaced stationary members having serrations over a portion of a given surface thereof and a plurality of rotatable members, preferably round and preferably serrated around the whole periphery thereof, mounted between adjacent stationary members, an entrance path being formed between the rotatable and stationary members. The entrance path tapers from an entrance dimension larger than the maximum lateral dimension of the syringe to a dimension at least substantially smaller than the maximum dimension. Further provided is a cartridge arrangement for the apparatus and a unique feeding arrangement to insure that the syringes, or the like articles, properly enter the entrance path.
