    • A reproducing apparatus for reproducing an information signal recorded on a recording medium is provided with a reproducing part arranged to reproduce the information signal recorded on the recording medium and to output the reproduced information signal, a muting circuit for muting the information signal outputted from the reproducing part, a detecting circuit for detecting the level of a noise component included in the information signal outputted from the reproducing part, and a control part for controlling a muting action of the muting circuit on the basis of a result of detection provided by the detecting circuit. These parts in combination enable the reproducing apparatus to reproduce the information signal without generating any noise component, in a minimal length of time after the commencement of reproduction.

    • An actuator driving method and an actuator driving device for PWM-driving an actuator of a storage disk device are disclosed. This method and device prevent a servo signal from being overlapped with switching noises. The storage disk device includes a head for reading information from a storage disk, a PWM driver for generating a drive current having a pulse width corresponding to a current indication value, a linear driver for generating a drive current of which a magnitude corresponds to the current indication value, an actuator, driven by the drive current, for moving the head, and a control circuit for generating the current indication value for positioning the head from the servo information read by the head from the storage disk. The driving method includes a step of PWM-driving the actuator by the PWM driver, and a step of effecting a switchover from the PWM drive to a linear drive by the linear driver during a period for which the control circuit reads the servo information.

    • Apparatus and method for a head switching operation utilizing an automatic dummy load in a disc drive. A preamplifier circuit sequentially selects head positions and applies corresponding bias currents. A sequence control circuit automatically diverts the path of a first bias current from a head selection circuit to a dummy load after detecting an input of a second head location value into a buffer, and before the input is complete. After a bias current value for the second head is written into the buffer, the sequence control automatically deasserts the path to the dummy load after a predetermined time interval. The second bias current is then applied to the second head.

    • A magnetic read-write device with a magnetic head consisting of a core and a coil. The read-write device is incorporated into in a camera. A writing circuit is connected directly and in parallel to the coil, for driving the coil with writing current in a writing mode for writing binary code data on a magnetic recording layer provided on photo film. The writing circuit has a pair of write control switches which are turned ON and OFF alternately to each other, to apply the writing current to the coil in alternating directions. An amplification circuit is also connected directly and in parallel to the coil. The amplification circuit amplifies signal voltage induced between terminals of the coil in a reading mode for reading binary code data from the magnetic recording layer, to output a reproduction signal. A switching transistor is connected in a line through which a drive voltage is supplied to the amplification circuit. In the writing mode, the switching transistor is turned OFF to deactivate the amplification circuit. In the reading mode, the switching transistor is turned ON, and the write control switches are turned OFF.

    • Proper coverage of data tracks of a magnetic tape in a magnetic tape drive is ensured by providing a head assembly having a set of read heads configured such that at least one of the read heads reads a desired data track as the magnetic tape moves across the head assembly. At least one of the read heads reads the desired data track by creating lateral differential motion of the head assembly with respect to the longitudinally extending data tracks of the magnetic tape. The differential motion is either created by tracking irregularities between the head assembly and the magnetic tape or by dithering or wobbling the head assembly with respect to the magnetic tape. In operation, a controller selects one of the read data signals generated by the read heads to generate a read back signal. The read back signal is the read data signal from the at least one of the two read heads reading the desired data track.

    • The present invention relates to a signal recording and reproducing method used for video tape recorder. An erasing position precedes a recording position and a reproducing position precedes the erasing position. By using a period when reproducing does not reproduce a signal recorded on a track of a tape-like storage medium, the period occurring during recording and reproducing operation, recording apparatus records a signal on a recording track or erasing apparatus erases a signal recorded on a recording track. Hereby, if a signal recorded on a recording track of the tape-like storage medium is processed and replaced, the signal recorded on the recording track of the tape-like storage medium can be satisfactorily reproduced without being influenced by signal recording operation and signal erasing operation.

    • A preamplifier circuit for a hard disk drive system comprises a preamplifier circuit having a bias voltage circuit stage associated therewith. The preamplifier circuit further comprises a current bias boost recovery circuit operatively coupled to the bias voltage circuit stage which is configured to increase a rate of charging of a noise reduction capacitor associated with the bias voltage circuit stage. A head select boost recovery circuit is also operatively coupled to the bias voltage circuit and is configured to increase a rate of charging or discharging of a bias capacitor associated with the bias voltage circuit stage. Together the circuits allow for a concurrent head switch and current bias switch and avoids the problems associated with the prior art.

    • A method of associating data with a plurality of heads in a disc drive apparatus employs heads disposed in physical locations in a head array. A plurality of data sets are provided, wherein each data set is associated with an address corresponding to the physical location of a respective head in the head array. In addition, the number of heads in the disc drive apparatus is determined and, based on the number of heads, a new head location scheme is selected. The new head location scheme defines a new head location for each physical head location address. Each data set is then associated with the new head location associated, in the new head location scheme, with the physical head location address associated with the data set.
