    • Apparatuses and methods are provided including electrically fired detonator are provided using, e.g., secondary explosives (SE), that have increased safety and reliability relative to primary explosives (PE). PEs require a lower amount of energy or shock to detonate than SEs thus are more difficult to initiate than PEs; SEs are less sensitive to shock or energy than PEs. SEs increase safety but suffer design difficulties in using such SEs in place of PEs that are more susceptible to undesired detonation. Various embodiments are provided including a metalized barrel with a specific thickness that is filled with a SE having a required diameter that has structures that provide efficient transfer/conversion of electrical energy into a detonation of the SE by, among other things, reducing electrical and mechanical/chemical losses. Embodiments of the invention also include various methods of design, use, and manufacturing.

    • A device for crimping the mouth of a detonator housing comprises a pair of opposed jaws reciprocally movable relative to each other, and a plurality of toothed segments on each jaw. The segments are moveable, are located in a jaw cavity, and together form a segmented ring. The side faces of each segment converge from a broad radially outer end towards a toothed radially inner narrow end. A resiliently stressable biasing element is provided between each adjacent pair of segments. The biasing elements act to space the segments of each pair apart when the jaws are spaced apart from each other, and also act to permit the segments, in response to movement of the moveable segments arising from the closing of the jaws, to abut against one another in series when the jaws are tightly in contact with each another, to form the segmented ring.

    • An initiator assembly for an inflator device. The initiator assembly includes an initiator. The initiator has an initiator cup at least in part defining a storage chamber containing at least one reactive charge and has at least one electrical connector in reaction initiating communication with the at least one reactive charge. The initiator assembly also includes an initiator retainer element connected to the initiator and a connector socket. The initiator retainer element is adapted to be disposed on a first side of a wall of the inflator device and the connector socket is adapted to be disposed on a second side of the wall opposite the first side. The initiator assembly is adapted to snap-lock to the inflator device.
