    • An end cap for being mounted on a fuel container, which end cap has a projection with a pair of holes through which a wick cord is looped. The free ends of the wick cord are then knotted inside the end cap with the remaining portion of the ends extending into the fuel. The openings in the end cap are larger than the wick cord, thus air is able to pass through these openings along with air passing through openings in the end caps adjacent the projection. This free flow of air shapes the flame to burn upwardly and away from the end cap and in a manner that the cord is not burned. Additionally, it is not possible to pull the cord up above the projection to enlarge the loop to increase the flame height.

    • The present invention provides methods and apparatus for controlling a flame. One embodiment comprises a reservoir for a flame-fueling liquid, a wick, and a collar surrounding the wick. The first end of the wick is within the reservoir and a flame-bearing end is above the first end. Flame-fueling liquid is supplied to the reservoir and is communicated up the wick to fuel a flame emanating from the flame-bearing end of the wick. The collar is slidable along a vertical axis between a first and second position. In the first position, the top of the collar is located above the flame-bearing end of the wick to block the flow of air from reaching the wick. In the second position, the top of the collar is located below the flame-bearing end of the wick, such that it does not substantially block the flow of air from reaching the wick.

    • The invention is an improved boiler for generating vapor at low pressure from liquid in reservoirs that are not pressurized. Liquid from a reservoir is fed through a supply wick by capillary action to a boiler wick in which the liquid is heated and boiled to a vapor. The heat for vaporization is transmitted by a porous hot seat which sits atop and is in contact with the boiler wick. The boiler wick and hot seat are contained within an insulating cylindrical shroud, which forms a tight seal with the edges of the boiler wick. If the liquid to be vaporized is a fuel for a burner, then combustion heat can be used to supply the heat to the boiler. A resistive heat source can also be used to heat the hot seat and boiler wick.

    • The present invention provides a device for a burner for a non-pressurized spirit stove. The stove includes a fuel container (10) with a spirit-absorbing means. The container provides an opening (11) in which the absorbing mass is uncovered in order to form an evaporation surface for the spirit-type fuel. The stove further includes a flame spreader (15) which is placed above the opening and which comprises a generally horizontal plate (16) with a downwardly extending edge part (17) through which air during burning flows to the evaporation surface. The plate (16) has several openings (22) which are shaped such that several minor flames are created having horizontal and tangential direction components.
