    • A modular model railway support system is designed either for overhead installation or above ground support of conventional model railway tracks. The system includes a plurality of side rail members and cross ties having opposite ends designed for interlocking, snap engagement with the side rail members to secure two parallel lengths of successive side rail members together to form a selected pathway for supporting track with side rail members extending along opposite sides of a single or double track and the cross ties forming supports for the track. The side rail members on each side of the track are secured together end-to-end by the cross ties.

    • A pair of coplanar, telescopic tracks are held in a spaced-apart and generally parallel relationship by a plurality of crossties. The crossties may also be telescopic to vary the space between the tracks according to use. At one end the tracks can be elevated by length-adjustable props or variable trusses. Each track comprises at least two segments, a first segment adapted to be slidably disposed in a channel of the second segment. The segments can be channel bars. A detent is used to temporarily hold the tracks at any of a plurality of telescoped lengths. A variable truss comprises a pair of divergent struts with a variable length member subtending the angle between the struts. This device is especially useful as a variable ramp for wheelchairs when it is made from relatively lightweight material such as aluminum.

    • A motor vehicle traction aid device including a plastic bag containing a sand mixture for insertion under a tire on a drive wheel of a motor vehicle for improving traction on ice, snow or the like. The bag is partially filled with the sand material and includes a foam or sponge rubber tab on one side. The bag is inserted between the driving surface and the tire of the motor vehicle such that the tab engages the tire. Rotation of the wheel toward the driving surface causes the tire to engage the tab, drawing the bag and the sand material under the tire in a rolling action, bursting the bag and dispensing the sand beneath the tire.

    • A device is disclosed for improving the traction of vehicle wheels, particularly for use with an automotive vehicle rendered immobile in snow or sand. A plate is provided with transverse T-shaped gripping members affixed to the plate on each surface for the entire width of the plate. Accordingly, positive traction is provided to both the vehicle wheel and the soft or slippery material, such as snow, sand, mud, or ice in which the wheel has become embedded. The invention is easily handled and used, particularly in emergency situations, and is durable under repeated conditions of hard use. Each T-shaped transverse bar constituting the gripping means is mounted preferably at an angle of about 25.degree. for presenting a positive gripping surface to enable the wheel to travel along the length of the traction device. Furthermore, the transverse bars provide rigidity to the device and are constructed to avoid damage to the tire. The device can be made of any suitable material, such as a lightweight aluminum alloy, high strength molded plastic, and like materials or combinations of materials.

    • A vehicle traction device for passenger cars and alike including a flexible belt-like traction mat with transverse corrugations on one side and substantially smooth on the other side. One end of the mat is pivotally secured to anchoring means including a flexible anchoring pad and ground gripping element.In use, the traction mat is first arranged to form a loop relative to the anchoring means. With its corrugations facing a tire and its smooth side facing the ground the traction mat will easily be drawn under a spinning wheel until that end of it, which is secured to the anchoring means becomes choked by the anchoring means. The tractive effort then developed causes the anchoring means to become wedged and thus assuring its fixed position, whereby the traction mat is prevented from being propelled away by the driven wheel.

    • A load-handling gantry having a single, unitary, bridging beam, and leg, brace and mounting components supporting the beam with provision for adjustment of gantry span, height, and spread, while maintaining gantry mobility. The mounting components are adjustable to enable use of the gantry in a number of configurations including inboard, outboard, and combination leg bracing, and with freedom for use under cantilever conditions. In the preferred embodiment, a predetermined camber, or longitudinal splay angle, of the plane of each pair of legs is provided, to decrease movement between the gantry legs and the beam, in the direction lengthwise of the beam, when the gantry is under load, thereby stabilizing the gantry in that sense. The selected splay angle is maintained by apparatus which couples the leg bracing struts to the beam and to the legs. Any selected angle, under the various arrangements of leg bracing, may be had, and may be maintained, by such coupling apparatus, which provides alteration of the effective bracing strut length, without the necessity of actually substituting struts of different lengths. Lateral clearance between the beam, and the legs and bracing struts, is maintained in the various configurations, at a value such as to permit free movement of the leg and strut assemblies along the length of the beam, and also a measure of lateral flexibility of the gantry. All adjustments relative to the beam may be made through external frictional gripping apparatus, cooperable with a standard imperforate beam.

This anti-slipping accessory is characterized by cleats laterally offset from each other transversely of the accessory to preserve the tractive efficiency even though the supporting surface has been plowed by the cleats; and also, by having a leading end allowing convenient wedging under a roadwheel and gripping of its tire. This accessory includes two converging strips of bendable material, crossbars extending transversely of these strips and simply secured thereto, cleats projecting endwise from one face of these strips and laterally offset from each other transversely of the strips, a crossbar at the leading end adapted to engage notches of the tire of the roadwheel, a crossbar at the trailing end adapted to minimize throwing of the accessory, and advantageous securement of each cleat to both the corresponding crossbar and the corresponding strip.

In the preferred form the legs are each longitudinally adjustable, and are pivotally connected to an adjustable cross-tie assembly serving also as a mobile mount, so that the height and the spread of the gantry are independently variable, while at the same time stability and mobility are achieved. Advantages as to space, weight, cost and versatility are among the objects.
