    • The paper stacker includes a pair of pivoted generally L-shaped elements disposed above a vertically movable paper tray. The elements pivotally depend such that their lower paper support legs are normally inclined and terminate at free edges in a roller. Upon upward movement of the tray and stacking initial sheets of fan-folded paper on the tray, the sheets engage the undersides of the elements to pivot the elements and, hence, the lower legs into generally horizontal positions whereby paper may be stacked on the horizonally disposed support legs of the elements. Upon reaching a predetermined stack height, the tray moves downwardly away from the elements, enabling the paper carried thereby to fall through the opening onto the tray. Upward movement of the tray then engages the underside of the elements to compress the paper stacked on the tray and, upon slight downward displacement of the tray, enable further stacking of paper on the elements whereby the cycle of stacking paper on the elements, releasing paper from the elements onto the tray and compressing the paper on the tray may be repeated.

    • Process and apparatus for the stocking (storage) of (pack) blanks and for feeding these to a folding unit of a packaging machine. The supply of packaging material to a packaging machine is especially difficult in the processing of blanks made of cardboard. Supply becomes easier if blanks joined together via residual connections are conveyed as a web of material in the packaging machine. Especially favorable storage of blanks (11) connected to one another is possible if the web of material (19) so formed is arranged in a zigzag-shaped manner as a result of oppositely directed folding and the blanks are stacked in this way. The stacks (15) formed can be kept in stock in a space-saving way and fed to an extraction station, in which the web of material (19) is drawn off from the stacks (15) and restored to the extended state. Appropriately, a plurality of stacks (15) is connected to one another, specifically via vertical web portions (23) from one stack to another, to form a continuous web of material (19).

    • The invention is a device for refolding fanfolded label-bearing webs as the webs are discharged from discharge point of a label printer. The device comprises three vertically spaced-apart wooden rods, including an uppermost, a middle, and a lowermost rod. The web is flattened as it passes generally vertically along and against the three rods. The middle rod is preferably disposed relative to the label printer at an angle of from 15 to 25 degrees from the discharge point. A deflector may be provided adjacent the discharge point for urging the web downwardly and towards the rods.

    • A running web of computer paper is provided with transversely extending rows of perforations between successive coherent panels which are thereupon folded over each other in zig-zag formations to be converted into a series of stacks. When a stack exhibits a tendency to lean forwardly or backwards, as considered in the direction of advancement of the web, the web is stretched in the regions which are to be provided with perforations and the web is thereupon permitted to contract so that certain panels are slightly shorter than the remaining panels. This eliminates the tendency of the stacks to lean forwardly or backwards. In order to eliminate the tendency of stacks to lean in one direction, the web is stretched for the making of successive or selected oddly numbered rows of perforations, and the tendency of stacks to lean in the other direction is eliminated by stretching the web during the making of successive or selected evenly numbered rows of perforations. Signals which initiate stretching of the web (either by accelerating the web downstream of the perforating station and/or by altering the length of the path for the web upstream of the perforating station) can be generated by hand as a result of visual observation of growing stacks, or automatically in response to signals from one or more inclination monitoring devices.

    • A chain of plastic bags having zipper-locking profiles is compactly stacked in a rectangular carton in successive layers such that the bags of the chain lie flat in the carton and the zipper profile portions of successive bags in chain do not lie on top of one another by means of an automatic apparatus. The apparatus comprises an oscillating guideway for laterally depositing the bags of the chain in rows extending back and forth between opposed lateral sidewalls of the carton and a vertically movable lift table having a horizontally reciprocating platform on which the carton is disposed. The lift table operates to lower the carton beneath the guideway as the carton is being filled and to move the carton transversely of the guideway so that the zipper profiles of successive bag rows are disposed offset from one another.

    • An apparatus for converting a continuous paper web with transversely extending weakened zones into successive stacks of overlapping panels in zig-zag formation has two endless foraminous belt conveyors with divergent active reaches which attract alternate panels of the running web and advance alternate weakened zones into the range of the flights of two spiral conveyors. The spiral conveyors terminate the change of orientation of oncoming panels and deposit the panels on a vertically movable support whereon the panels accumulate into a stack. When the number of panels in a stack reaches a predetermined value, a nozzle admits compressed air between the topmost panel of the stack and the next-following panel so as to open the zig-zag formation and permit insertion of a table having a slot for a reciprocable knife which severs the web along the fold line between the topmost panel of the stack and the next-following panel. One of the spiral conveyors is arrested during introduction of the table into the gap between the two neighboring panels. Stops are disposed between the discharge ends on the active reaches of the foraminous conveyors and the adjacent spiral conveyors to promote the folding of panels relative to each other as well as to prevent lateral stray movements of the panels on their way toward the support.
