    • A printing press having an impression cylinder with a bearing at each end an image carrier cylinder and a frame in which both cylinders are positioned. A device is provided for moving the impression cylinder between an engaged printing position cooperating with the image carrier cylinder and a disengaged position and also for producing a larger motion of the impression cylinder for the purpose of replacing the image carrier cylinder. A lead screw is provided for each bearing for lifting and lowering the bearing of the impression cylinder and a thrust piston and cylinder unit for acting on each bearing for urging the impression cylinder towards the image carrier cylinder. A nut engages each lead screw, each nut having a tubular section with a constant external diameter, and a pinion is mounted on each tubular section, and having a hub supported for pinion rotation in a fixed position relative to the frame. The pinion is rotatively locked to the tubular section for rotation and for sliding to a limited extent for maintaining the pinion in mesh with gearing for rotatively driving the pinion during the large motion. Each bearing is compensated by balance the weight of the bearing of parts connected with the bearing and of the impression cylinder.

    • A device which performs the lifting and throw-off of an impression cylinder in a printing machine, comprises a first supporting pin (1) which carries a gate (2) that is provided with a run-out path (4) and stop (3). Upon disengagement of the impressional forces, the stop is in engagement with a first projection (6) on a first catch (7), which is swingably mounted on a second supporting pin (15), fixed in a side plate (16) of the machine. A connecting tie rod (9) is fastened to the first catch (7) by a pin (8), and another end of the connecting tie rod (9) is connected, by a second pin (10) to a second catch (11), mounted slightly turnably on a basic pin (28). The second catch is provided with a second projection (12), which becomes engaged with stop (3) of gate (2), upon engagement of impressional forces, and against the run-out path (4) which bears against an operating roller (13 ) of a driver (14).

    • A roll-type coater for applying a coating material to a web of paper includes an actuator mechanism for accurately controlling the movement and position of a metering roll with respect to a coating transfer roll, to prevent shock loading of the transfer roll upon closing movement of the metering roll, and to provide for rapid opening of the metering roll when necessary. The mechanism includes a bellcrank and link connected to move the metering roll along guideways, in which the linkage approaches, but does not exceed, an overcenter position just before the metering roll comes into contact with one or more micrometer blocks which space it accurately from the coating roll. A movable stop is provided which engages the bellcrank just prior to closing of the rolls, to absorb the impact and prevent the same from being transferred to the adjacent rolls and retracts, permitting final rotation of the bellcrank and the associated movement of the metering roll into its final metering position, with the loads all stacked in one direction. The movable stop may be operated against the bellcrank to open up the nip between the rolls, when necessary.

    • The printing cylinder support unit for a printing machine according to the invention comprises a support frame, supporting means mounted on the support frame, and one of a plurality of positioning elements. The supporting means comprise displacement means and at least three support elements for each axial end of a printing cylinder, which support elements are designed each to interact with the positioning element at the location of a support point on the positioning element. The positioning element can be connected to one of a plurality of printing cylinders, the positions of the support points being related to the diameter of the printing cylinder in question. The displacement means are designed to move at least two of the support elements with respect to the support frame so as to receive positioning elements with different support point positions. The positioning element can be connected to the support elements in a rotationally fixed manner and comprises axle support means for accommodating a rotation axle of one of the printing cylinders.
