    • Mouldable poly - alpha - olefine compositions are prepared by either (1) admixing a poly-alpha-olefine with a modified copolymer obtainable by treating a copolymer of ethylene and an acrylic ester of the formula CH2 = CRCOOR1 wherein R is H or methyl and R1 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group having up to 18 carbon atoms, with ammonia or an amine of the formula R11-NH-R111 wherein R11 and R111 are each H, R1 as above defined (with the modification that the specified groups may be substituted by one or more hydroxyl or dialkylamino groups), or a heterocyclic, dialkylamino or diarylamino group, or R11 and R111 may be linked together to form a heterocyclic ring containing one or more nitrogen and /or oxygen atoms, or (2) admixing an ethylene-acrylic ester copolymer (non-modified) as defined above with a poly-alpha-olefine and treating the mixture obtained with an amino compound as defined above, in order to convert from 2 to 98% of the ester groups in the copolymer into amide groups. Suitable poly-alpha-olefines include polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene-1 and poly-4-methylpentene-1; isotactic polypropylene is preferred. Many examples of acrylic esters and amino reactants are listed. In the examples, methyl and ethyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate are used as the ester component, and ammonia, methylamine, dimethylamine, diethylamine, N,N-diethyl-1,3-propylenediamine, N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine and pyrrolidine are used as the amino compound. Treatment of the copolymer with the amino compound is preferably effected at 150-400 DEG C., optionally in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. sodium methylate, potassium hydroxide, sodium chloride, nitrate or carbonate, or sodamide; the copolymer may be in the molten state or reacted in the presence of water or an organic solvent. There may be included in the compositions antioxidants (e.g. alkylphenols), U.V. degradation inhibitors (e.g. benzophenone derivatives), heat stabilizers (e.g. neutral esters of thio-biscarboxylic acids) and/or other additives such as metal salts of higher fatty acids. The compositions can be formed into fibres having good affinity for various dyes, and have improved printability, antistatic and low temperature properties compared with simple poly-alpha-olefines.ALSO:Dyeable compositions which may be formed into films, filaments and fibres comprise an admixture of a polyalphaolefin, preferably polypropylene, and a copolymer of ethylene and an acrylic ester of the formula CH2 = CR - COOR1 wherein R is H or methyl and R1 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group having up to 18 carbon atoms, from 2 to 98% of the ester units of the copolymer having been converted to amide units by treatment with ammonia or various aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic amines (as defined in the specification). The compositions have a good affinity for various dyes including those of the direct, vat, acid, disperse, reactive and metallized types, of which several examples are given. Examples illustrate the dyeing of fibres of such compositions in the presence of nonionic and anionic surface active agents and, optionally, ammonium sulphate, formic acid, sulphuric acid, chlorobenzene or dichlorobenzene, the dyeing procedure generally including a subsequent soaping step; the dyes used are Sumiplene Red G (disperse), Celliton Fast Yellow G (disperse), Vialon Fast Red G (metallized), Cibalan Blue BL (1:2-metallized), Duranol Blue 2G (disperse), Celliton Fast Red 4G (disperse), Vialon Fast Yellow R (metallized), Xylene Fast Yellow, Red and Blue P (acid), Sumiplene Blue G (disperse), Vialon Bordoux R (metallized) and Palenil Blue 7G (disperse).
