    • In a radiation image read-out apparatus, a stimulable phosphor sheet, on which a radiation image of an object has been stored, is scanned with a laser beam of a predetermined output power, which causes the stimulable phosphor sheet to emit light in proportion to the amount of energy stored thereon during its exposure to radiation, and the emitted light is photoelectrically detected with a predetermined sampling time. A response speed r sec! of the stimulable phosphor constituting the stimulable phosphor sheet, the laser beam output power p W!, a picture element size s m!, and the sampling time t sec! are set such that they may satisfy Formulas (1), (2), and (3): r/(s.multidot.t) 1 (3) The radiation image having been stored on the stimulable phosphor sheet is thereby read out quickly and such that a reproduced image having good image quality may be obtained.

    • A synchronizing signal generating system for a laser scanner includes a source for emitting a first laser beam for scanning and a second laser beam for synchronization of scans by the first laser beam, a polygonal mirror for causing the first laser beam to scan a medium and for causing the second laser beam to scan a grating which has bright portions and dark portions alternately arranged along a scanning direction of the second laser beam, a converging optical system for converging the second laser beam transmitted through the grating, a light receiving system for receiving the second laser beam converged by the converting optical system and for generating a synchronizing signal and a circuit for controlling the source responsive to the synchronizing signal so as to synchronize a scan timing of the first laser beam. A scan length of the second laser beam measured on the grating is set longer than a scan length of the first laser beam measured on the same plane.

    • A cathode ray tube useful as a transducer for converting electrical signal information into a visual pattern on a recording medium uses a cylindrical envelope along which a signal modulated beam is projected. A fiber optics plate is positioned along the sidewall of the envelope and the beam is swept in a liner scan of the fiber optics plate by an array of electromagnets, positioned along the envelope and properly excited to deflect the beam appropriately. For monitoring the properties of the electron beam, the inner surface of the end plate of the envelope is provided with a patterned coating of luminescent material on which the electron beam is incident when undeflected by the array of electromagnets. Sensors are provided for measuring the flux distribution for monitoring the properties of the electron beam.
