摘要： The present invention allows a global telephone number be assigned to a first outbound-only telephone line connected to a first service switching point (SSP) to be also assigned to a second outbound-only telephone line connected to a second service switching point. The global telephone number can be used as many times as there are service switching points within a single area code region. In a preferred embodiment, in which an outbound-only telephone line subscriber also has a regular telephone line, all calls originated from the subscriber's outbound-only telephone line can be billed against the account of the subscriber's regular telephone line. The invention also allows multiple outbound-only telephone lines be billed against the account of a single regular telephone line. In addition, the invention also allows a subscriber of a regular telephone line that is used substantially or exclusively for outbound-only purposes to convert the regular telephone line into an outbound-only telephone line, thereby allowing the telephone number to reuse the global telephone number for an converted outbound-only telephone line.

摘要： A method is disclosed for authorizing a prepaid network service in a data network. A network end station issues a request for a prepaid network service. At a network node, such as a router serving as a gateway for selecting services, a determination is made about whether a user associated with the end station is authorized to access the prepaid network service. Network traffic from the end station is forwarded to a service provider only when the user is authorized to use the prepaid network service. Specific embodiments provide message flows among a mobile station, gateway support node, router, and authentication server that support providing prepaid services in a packet-switched network for mobile communication. In certain embodiments, a connection is held open for an end station while a prepaid quota value is refreshed at a portal, thereby reducing overhead and precluding the need to repeat user logon steps. Further, unused quota amounts can be returned to the authentication server for use in association with multiple concurrent connections of the same device.

The access provider includes a service access manager (230) for verifying whether a user terminal or a user of a user terminal is authorized to request a service from a service provider and only upon positive verification enables the user terminal to access the service provider, thereby relieving the respective service providers from having to authorize the user (terminal).

The two numbers could be acquired from a pre-paid card, for example, with the numbers hidden until a covering is scratched off by the users. The terminal must be activated on the network by first entering a authentication key, whereby the terminal obtains an identity on the network. The customer can then add an account number that creates and/or credits the terminal account on the network, whereby the terminal obtains a call number from the network. The customer can add credit to his account by purchasing additional pre-paid cards.
