    • The invention includes a plurality of first electrical pads which are supported on a first object which is configured to be supported in a first position, and a plurality of second electrical pads which are supported on a second object which is configured to be supported in a second position and adjacent to the first object. Each of the objects is configured to be removed from the respective first and second positions by movement along parallel paths of movement in a first direction and are configured to be installed in the respective positions by movement along the paths in a second direction which is opposite the first direction. Furthermore, each object is configured to be installed into, or removed from, its respective supported position while the other object remains supported in its respective position. Either object can be installed into, or removed from, its respective position in any sequence.

    • A thin electronic card (10) can securely receive and connect to contacts of an RJ or telephone type plug (40). The card has a vertical hole (52) through which the RJ plug can be inserted. The front wall (84) of the hole has downwardly-facing card shoulders (80,82) for abutting the upwardly-facing shoulders (70,72) of the RJ plug latch (62), and the front wall has a rib (96) with an upwardly-facing shoulder(100) that lies below and laterally between the other card shoulders to engage a largely downwardly-facing shoulder (92) on the latch. The hole is formed in an adaptor (50) that can slide forward (F) and rearward (R). The adaptor includes a frame (110) that forms the front wall of the hole and the shoulders thereat, and a separate contact block (112). The contact block slides a shorter distance than the frame when both of them are slid to the fully stowed position within the card frame (32). Contacts (116) on the contact block have resilient front ends that are slideably engaged with traces on the circuit board.

    • A device for digital data transmission includes a U-shaped support rail and a plastic strand which can be clamped into the U-shaped support rail. A strip-like metal contact conductor is mounted on a portion of the inner side of the plastic strand located frontally opposite and at a distance from an insertion gap for a collector shoe which is longitudinally movable in the support rail. The contact conductor contacts a contact body of the collector shoe. Compared to the plastic strand, the contact conductor has a significantly smaller thickness. A shielding member is provided between the inner side of the plastic strand and the support rail. The shielding member has shield contact surfaces which interact with a contact piece of the collector shoe. The contact conductor is clamped into a longitudinal channel of the plastic strand which is bent into a circular shape. The plastic strand is locked to the support rail. With the exception of the shield contact surfaces, the shielding member is insulated relative to the inner side of the plastic strand. The shield contact surfaces are supported by outer edge portions of the plastic strand and project freely movably beyond projections at the sides of the support rail.

The relative positions of the guide members and collectors are such that when the guide members are in engagement with the sides of the housing the collectors will be directly below the housing slots, so that when the guide members are moved inwardly along the housing the collectors will enter the slots in the inclined portion of the housing and engage the conductors.

    • A contact apparatus for making electrical contact with the outer layer of insulation on an electrical cable employs a brush assembly mounted on a pantograph linkage to maintain a substantially fixed angular relationship between the brush assembly and the cable as the cable moves relative to the brushes and axially of itself. A resilient spring cooperates with the pantograph linkage to urge the brush assembly into contact with the outer surface of the cable. Contact brushes on the assembly are formed by metallic bristles disposed at an angle of approximately 30* to the cable axis to permit substantial portions of the outer surface of the cable to be contacted. Several such apparatuses may be employed in combination to make electrical contact with the entire circumference of the cable and thereby permit a high voltage to be applied to the cable insulation for detecting flaws.
