    • A metamaterial device has a coaxial structure including rotational symmetry about a longitudinal axis of coaxial conductors. In a disclosed example, a series inductance portion has a relatively smaller circumferential dimension compared to another portion of a conductor. A series capacitance portion comprises an interruption in the conductor. A shunt capacitance portion has the largest circumferential dimension of the conductor. A shunt inductance portion comprises a relatively small electrical connection between first and second conductors. A disclosed example metamaterial structure is useful, for example, as a filter in a wireless communication device.

    • The invention relates to a tunable λ/4-filter subassembly whose frequency response can be adjusted. For this purpose, the λ/4-filter subassembly has a signal-conducting electrical conductor and an electrically conductive element that is at a reference potential. Furthermore, at least one short-circuit device is provided that electrically contacts the electrical conductor.     • A device for protecting a radio frequency transmission line from transient voltages includes an inner conductor for transmitting communication signals of a desired frequency band and a grounded, coaxial outer conductor electrically insulated from the inner conductor by a pair of annular insulators. As one feature of the invention, a tap conductor for discharging transient voltages carried by the inner conductor that fall outside the desired frequency band is coupled at one end to the inner conductor through a press-fit connection. As another feature of the invention, a pair of high-quality contacts are mounted onto opposite ends of the outer conductor and serve, together with the inner conductor, as the only electrical contact surfaces for the protective device that transmit the desired communication signals. As another feature of the invention, each insulator has a constant outer diameter along the entirety of its length and a variable inner diameter.

    • A novel coaxial DC block with circumferential capacitive shielding is presented. The coaxial DC block includes an inner DC block electrically couplable to a first inner conductor of a first length of coaxial cable and electrically couplable to a second inner conductor of a second length of coaxial cable. The inner DC block provides a capacitance which capacitively couples the first inner conductor to the second inner conductor and blocks a first frequency range of interest. The inner DC block is electrically sealed and shielded by a capacitive sleeve that is concentrically arranged to form a Faraday cage around the inner DC block. The capacitive sleeve is electrically couplable to a first outer conductor of the first length of coaxial cable and electrically couplable to a second outer conductor of the second length of coaxial cable. The capacitive sleeve forms a circumferential capacitance that electrically circumferentially couples the first outer conductor to the second outer conductor and blocks a second frequency range of interest.

    • A standing wave barrier for at least one radio frequency cable having a cable axis has at least one metallic base web that proceeds parallel to the cable axis from a first web end to a second web end. The web ends are coupled to one another in terms of radio frequency terms via a capacitance, so that the base web and the capacitance together form a radio frequency resonant oscillator circuit. The base web and the capacitance are situated in one of two half-shells that can be connected to one another such that the radio frequency cable is clamped between them. The capacitance has an adjustable capacitor element that has a first capacitor surface and a second capacitor surface. The first capacitor surface is connected in electrically conductive fashion to the first web end, and the second capacitor surface is connected in electrically conductive fashion to the second web end. The first and the second capacitor surfaces are respectively capacitively coupled to a number of first counter-surfaces and second counter-surfaces. Adjustment of the adjustable capacitor element can be accomplished by making an electrically conductive connection between the first counter-surfaces and the second counter-surfaces.
