    • A method of determining a steam quality of a wet steam located in an interior of a steam turbine includes emitting from an optical probe a plurality of wavelengths through the wet steam, measuring with the optical probe a wet steam intensity corresponding to each of the plurality of wavelengths emitted through the wet steam, determining an intensity ratio vector by dividing the wet steam intensity by a corresponding dry steam intensity for each of the plurality of wavelengths, successively applying scaling factors to the intensity ratio vector to obtain a scaled intensity ratio vector, calculating a suitable value for each of the scaling factors to obtain a plurality of residuals, determining a minimum residual of the plurality of residuals, determining a droplet size distribution by calculating the droplet number density corresponding to the minimum residual, and determining the steam quality based on the droplet size distribution.

    • A system and method for measuring particle concentration includes a communicative device, a main controller, a photon generator, and a photon sensor. The communicative device is in communication with the main controller. The main controller is in communication with the photon generator and the photon sensor respectively. In operation, the communicative device receives the input data from a user and transmits the input data to the main controller. The main controller decodes the input data. The main controller controls the photon generator to emit a particular type of light at particular intensity represented by the input data. The main controller controls the photon sensor to detect light. Upon detection, the photon sensor measures the amount of photon energy of the detected light and then transmits data representing that amount of photon energy to the main controller. The main controller transmits the data to the communicative device.

    • A device to measure the amount of light able to transmit through a test liquid sample. A single lamp is used to illuminate a liquid sample cell containing the test water. A light detector is fixed relative to the lamp and is used to detect the amount of light from the lamp able to transmit through the liquid sample cell. The liquid sample cell is shaped in such a way as to provide at least two sets of opposed side walls that are able to transmit the light emitted from the lamp, where each set of opposed side walls defines a different path length through the liquid sample in the liquid sample cell. A rotation mechanism is used to provide relative rotation between the liquid sample cell and the lamp/light detector assembly. A microprocessor connected to the light detector calculates the light transmitted through at least two different path lengths through the liquid sample. Using these calculated transmittances the microprocessor then calculates the overall transmittance of the test water.

    • Disclosed are method and apparatus for measuring density, that can simultaneously measure gaseous substance density and solid particulate material density and further can simultaneously measure the densities of a plurality of materials such as black smoke, white smoke, and water vapor in the solid particulate material in a simple and reliable manner. The method for measuring density comprises applying a laser beam having an absorption wavelength inherent in a gaseous material contained in an object to be measured, to the object to detect a light transmittance and a light absorption amount and detecting the density of gaseous materials in the object and the density of solid particulate materials in the object. The relationship between the density of a plurality of kinds of solid particulate materials including black smoke and white smoke and a laser beam attenuation level in each absorption wavelength is preset. Laser beams having a plurality of respective absorption wavelengths are applied to the gaseous substance to be measured. The attenuation levels of the applied laser beams having the plurality of absorption wavelengths are measured. The measured attenuation levels are compared with the attenuation levels calculated based on the present relationship to calculate the densities of the plurality of kinds of solid particulate materials.
