    • A solid fuel burning stove is provided and includes a housing within which a combustion chamber is located. The combustion chamber receives combustion air via an adjustable inlet formed through a channel member running along the base of the housing. The channel member defines a combustion air duct which communicates with a combustion air intake in the rear wall of the housing. Combustion air is drawn into the stove via the air intake and is forced through the combustion air duct by a fan. The combustion air passes through the adjustable inlet into the combustion chamber. A fire box is located within the combustion chamber above the adjustable inlet and holds the solid fuel to be combusted. Hot flue gases heat air flowing through a plurality of heat exchange tubes passing through the combustion chamber. The heated air flowing through the heat exchange tubes is directed into the room in which the stove is located via a plurality of vents in the front wall of the housing. The hot flue gases are then discharged from the stove via an exhaust in the rear of the stove. A hopper is also located within the housing and provides solid fuel to a delivery system which automatically replenishes the solid fuel in the fire box.

    • A fireplace furnace is insertable as a unit into the front opening of an existing fireplace. It has a firebox portion and can also have a cookstove extension of the firebox which protrudes into the room when the firebox is positioned in a fireplace. A sheet metal jacket around the firebox encloses a first air space. Double side walls of the firebox define a second air space. Frontal air openings connect both air spaces to the ambient room air. Rear openings in the outermost side walls interconnect the two air spaces at the rear of the firebox. Heat exchange tubes communicating with the first air space at the back of the firebox pass through the firebox to air discharge openings at the front of the unit. Air intake blowers in the first air space are insulated from the firebox by the second air space. Baffles in the first air space direct the incoming air flow rearwardly along the outer side walls, deflect a portion of such flow into the second air space, and divide another portion of such flow approximately equally among the heat exchange tubes. The unit has a front access opening and door with adjustable draft control mechanism.

    • An improved wood burning stove for providing heated air to a room or similar area includes an enclosed fire chamber, a hearth at the bottom of the fire chamber, draft inlet means at the front of the fire chamber and a flue at the rear of the fire chamber. Within the fire chamber is an enclosed air chamber having lower and upper portions; the lower portion communicates at the bottom of the stove with the ambient air and extends upwardly adjacent the rear wall of the fire chamber to a point below the flue, where it joins with the upper portion. The upper portion of the air chamber extends upwardly toward the front of the fire chamber at an acute angle with the horizontal, preferably between five and twenty-five degrees; at the forward end of the upper portion the air chamber communicates with one or more air pipes which extend to the front of the stove and there open to the ambient air. Ambient air is heated by passing it through the air chamber and air pipes after they have been heated by hot gases rising from a fire burning on the hearth; the hot gases contact the air pipes and the bottom surface of the air chamber's upper portion and, because their normal path of travel to the flue is altered by the positioning of the upper portion of the air chamber, contact the top surface of the air chamber's upper portion as well.

    • An air heating chamber is supported to project into a stove through an opening provided in the rear wall of the stove by a mounting plate mounted to the exterior of the stove rear wall. The mounting plate which forms the exterior end wall of the heating chamber, includes laterally spaced heating chamber inlet and outlet openings. A blower is detachably mounted to the exterior of the mounting plate in registration with the heating chamber inlet opening to deliver cool forced air into the heating chamber. After circulating therethrough, the air exits the heating chamber through the outlet opening and flows into a hot air manifold, which is also detachably mounted to the exterior of the mounting plate. The manifold includes an upwardly extending inlet chamber with a hot air inlet at its lower end aligned with the heating chamber outlet opening. A horizontal outlet chamber is attached to the top end of the inlet chamber to extend laterally along the back of the stove. Hot air outlets are provided at each end of the manifold outlet chamber to discharge the heated air horizontally over the top and towards the front of the stove.

    • A maximum efficiency stove or furnace for heating homes or other buildings. The stove includes a primary combustion area for burning a primary fuel, such as wood, and secondary combustion areas for burning the gases of combustion after they leave the primary combustion area. The combustion chambers and areas are at least partially surrounded by air heating enclosures through which ambient room air is forced, preferably by a fan, for heating. Air for sustaining combustion is preheated in a preheating chamber and fed through separate intakes to both the primary and secondary combustion areas. A single draft control is provided to control air flow through the preheating chamber and to simultaneously control the flow of preheated air to and through both said primary and secondary combustion air intakes.
