    • A drilling shaft abutting apparatus is disclosed herein. The apparatus includes a plate having an arcuate edge. The arcuate edge is configured to at least partially encircle a drilling shaft. The apparatus also includes a first blade mounted on the plate for pivoting movement between a first retracted position and a first fully-pivoted position. The first blade passes across the arcuate edge during movement between the first retracted position and the first fully-pivoted position. The first blade prevents items from falling down a hole at least partially occupied by the drilling shaft. The apparatus includes at least one actuator operable to selectively urge the first blade to at least one of the first retracted position and the first fully-pivoted position.

    • A wellhead vault for preventing alteration of the wellhead of a water supply. The vault is a heavy bell-shaped structure, formed of concrete, and having a downwardly facing concavity, and the vault placed over, with the concavity around the wellhead. The vaults too heavy to be removed by human lifting. Lifting elements are provided to allow the vault to be installed and removed by heavy construction equipment. The vault has a vent that communicates between the concavity and the outside, allowing air, but not liquid, liquid or solid contaminants, or animals, to pass through.

    • A protective covering for use with a bottom hole assembly of a drilling rig to protect users from exposure to drilling fluid disposed within the assembly includes a sheet with a top face and a bottom face, a first set of fasteners affixed to the top face of the sheet along a longitudinal axis of the sheet and oriented substantially parallel to one another, and a second set of fasteners affixed to the bottom face of the sheet, the second set of fasteners being oriented substantially parallel to one another and perpendicular to the first set of fasteners. The user may dispose the bottom face of the sheet on the bottom hole assembly and wrap the sheet around the assembly such that the first set of fasteners engage the second set of fasteners, thereby securing the protective covering to the bottom hole assembly.
