    • A tapered inner grinding element is spaced apart from an outer grinding element with a space therebetween which defines the size of the ground product. A shaft is connected at its bottom end to the inner element for operating the grinder. Screw threads formed on the shaft and an adjuster knob are engaged such that rotation of the adjuster knob directly moves the inner grinding element axially for adjusting the size of the ground condiment. A sleeve fixed to the inner grinding element slides axially on the shaft but is fixed to rotate with the shaft. Mating snap-acting connectors on the sleeve and the adjuster knob are joined by elastic deformation.

    • A spice grinder (12) comprising a first, static component (10) which includes threading (14) by means of which it can be screwed onto the threaded neck of a container and a second, rotatable component (16) which fits on the component (10). The first component (10) has a tapering bore with teeth (30) projecting inwardly from the surface of the bore. The second component (16) has a cone (44) with teeth (48) on the outside thereof. The teeth (48) are in the tapering bore whereby grinding takes place in the gap between the teeth of the first and second components upon the second component being rotated. The first and second component (10, 16) have interlocking circumferentially extending ribs and grooves (32, 50, 52) which permit the rotatable component (16) to be moved axially and located in its adjusted position thereby to vary the size of the gap between the teeth (30) of the rotatable component and the teeth (48) of the static component.

    • The present invention provides a spice mill, in particular a pepper mill, having an improved design for setting the fineness of ground particles produced by the mill. Outer grinding teeth are located within a fixed seat. The fixed seat is connected to a rotating seat by means of a convex annular bead and a concave annular groove, thereby preventing movement of the rotating seat away from the fixed seat when the rotating seat is rotated in order to set the fineness of the ground particles. Inner grinding teeth are positioned within the outer grinding teeth and supported by a lift seat. Spokes on the lift seat are positioned within guide grooves located on the inner wall of the fixed seat whereby, on rotation of the rotating seat, the lift seat is moved upward or downward and the inner grinding teeth are shifted upwards or downwards, thereby setting the size and the fineness of the ground particles produced by the mill.

    • The present invention relates to a grinding device for or in a pepper mill to be used on a table and comprising a receptacle for peppercorns being at its bottom provided with a stator and a rotor having cooperating grinding surfaces of a frustoconical shape converging upwardly, said rotor being secured to a shaft carried through the receptacle and rotatably mounted in a bearing in the top of the receptacle. According to the invention an aperture for supplying peppercorns to the receptacle is provided in the rotor and the grinding surfaces of the stator and rotor are urged against each other in working relationship by spring means acting directly or indirectly upon the shaft and the receptacle.

    • The present invention is an improved method to grind coffee where grinding speed can be adjusted either on demand or according to a programmed profile. By lowering the rotational speed of the grinding burrs, the user can insure more consistent particle size for types of coffee or methods of brewing where it is desirable, or dramatically increase speed for greater productivity. By incorporating a load cell, the grinder is able to identify coffee brewing device and deliver portioned ground coffee according to program settings or user input. The device also features an improved hopper design to reduce waste and ease whole bean removal. More importantly is a new method to calibrate the distance between the grinder mills and to automatically adjust grinder particle size so that a given numerical value is consistent for each grinder and every user.
