A recessed grommet having holes therein is positioned in the bottom of each cage and allows air to pass from the air plenum to within the cage.

    • A method for detecting temperature of an object to be measured such as a workpiece mounted on a coordinate measuring apparatus having a movable measuring arm. The measuring apparatus includes a sensing pin or a complete sensing head as well as a temperature sensor. For measuring temperature, the sensing pin or sensing head is exchanged for the temperature sensor having the same kind of holder as the sensing pin. Thereafter, the temperature sensor is moved to the object by the measuring arm of the apparatus and is placed in contact therewith. The registered temperature measurement values are used to correct the lengths and spacings measured with the coordinate measuring apparatus. The entire temperature and coordinate measuring operation is carried out completely automatically by the CNC control of the apparatus without the aid of operating personnel. A temperature sensor for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

    • A cage assembly for animals includes a cage having an open-top transparent body and a containment member for the cage body to confine the animals. A filter cap for biologically isolating the encaged animals from the environment surrounding the cage assembly is disposed on the cage. The filter cap has a substantially rigid transparent housing that rests on and encompasses the cage. A portion of the filter cap overhangs a portion of the cage to prevent the filter cap from being dislodged from the cage. An air filter is detachably secured to a roof portion of the filter cap and is protected from damage by a perforated metal plate. All elements of the filter cap are autoclavable and reusable.

    • A ventilated animal cage rack has a hollow housing divided into a plurality of horizontally-disposed shelf compartments separated from each other by partition walls and having front open ends normally closed off by transparent doors which isolate the interiors of the shelf compartments from each other and from the interior of the room containing the cage rack. Each shelf compartment is sized to contain a row of horizontally-spaced animal cages having open top ends and closed bottom ends, with the open top ends spaced well below the ceiling of the shelf compartment. A low pressure air plenum extends vertically along one side of the cage rack and communicates with one side of each of said shelf compartments, the other sides of which contain air inlet openings communicating with the room interior, thereby providing a low-pressure negative air flow along the top open ends of the contained animal cages to said air plenum and then to a room exhaust system. The animal cage rack is provided with a watering system including an individual water dispensing valve for each of the contained animal cages, and each cage is provided with an access opening through which the animals therein may reach the respective dispensing valve. Each shelf is provided with a guide member for each animal cage stored therein, each guide member being precision formed to insure accurate registry of the access opening of the inserted animal cage with the respective water dispensing valve.

    • The present invention relates to new and improved germicidal compositions having spermicidal properties comprising of a major amount of a mixture of n--C.sub.12-18 alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium halides and n--C.sub.12-14 alkyl dimethyl ethylbenzyl ammonium halides and a minor amount of a wetting agent selected from the group consisting of non-ionic, cationic and/or amphoteric surfactants and mixtures thereof.Spermicidal-germicidal compositions of the present invention possess new, improved and unexpected properties, particularly with respect to being biologically active against a wide range of organism including the venereal type organisms such as Neisseria gonorrhea, Treponema pallidum and other spirochetes, Hemophilus ducreyii, flagellates, such as Trichomonas vaginalis and related organisms. The compositions of the present invention have been found to exhibit spermicidal properties and, therefore, are particularly useful as a contraceptive. They are non-irritating towards vaginal tissues.
