摘要： An environmental monitoring and controlling system for a ventilated cage and rack system that monitors and measures air flow in the rack at either the rack or cage level. At the rack level, two pressure sensors are provided in a supply air system to accurately monitor the air flow rate into the rack. In addition, two pressure sensors may be provided in an exhaust air system to accurately monitor the air flow rate out of the rack. At the cage level, a cage may be equipped with a highly accurate pressure sensor, including a Venturi tube and thermistor, the monitor the air flow rate in a cage located at any cage position in the rack.

摘要： A ventilated cage and rack system which maximizes cage density within the rack is provided. The rack includes at least one air exhaust plenum, and at least one canopy disposed within said rack. The canopy is capable of supporting a first cage within the rack above the canopy, and also positioning a second cage below the canopy so as to maintain a gap between the top of the second cage and the canopy to permit air to be drawn into the air exhaust plenum from the interior of the second cage through the top of the second cage and to also permit ambient air to be drawn across the top of the second cage into the air exhaust plenum.

An indexing arm disposed in a sleeve extends into the slide path of the cage and is coupled to a locking arm also disposed in the sleeve. When the cage is slid into the rack, the indexing arm causes the locking arm to extend from the sleeve to lock the cage in place.

摘要： A ventilated age and rack system having an enclosed ventilated rack and a plurality of barrier cages on the shelves of the rack includes a liquid manifold for transporting a liquid to a plurality of predetermined positions along the shelves. A drinking valve is positioned within the cage to allow an animal to consume liquid supplied by the liquid manifold without leaving the cage. A coupling couples the liquid manifold to the drinking valve so that liquid may flow from the liquid manifold to within the cage when the cage is placed in the rack at the predetermined positions. An air plenum transports positive pressure air to the plurality of predetermined positions. A recessed grommet having holes therein is positioned in the bottom of each cage and allows air to pass from the air plenum to within the cage.

摘要： A method for detecting temperature of an object to be measured such as a workpiece mounted on a coordinate measuring apparatus having a movable measuring arm. The measuring apparatus includes a sensing pin or a complete sensing head as well as a temperature sensor. For measuring temperature, the sensing pin or sensing head is exchanged for the temperature sensor having the same kind of holder as the sensing pin. Thereafter, the temperature sensor is moved to the object by the measuring arm of the apparatus and is placed in contact therewith. The registered temperature measurement values are used to correct the lengths and spacings measured with the coordinate measuring apparatus. The entire temperature and coordinate measuring operation is carried out completely automatically by the CNC control of the apparatus without the aid of operating personnel. A temperature sensor for carrying out the method is also disclosed.

A filter cap for biologically isolating the encaged animals from the environment surrounding the cage assembly is disposed on the cage. The filter cap has a substantially rigid transparent housing that rests on and encompasses the cage. A portion of the filter cap overhangs a portion of the cage to prevent the filter cap from being dislodged from the cage. An air filter is detachably secured to a roof portion of the filter cap and is protected from damage by a perforated metal plate. All elements of the filter cap are autoclavable and reusable.

摘要： A ventilated animal cage rack has a hollow housing divided into a plurality of horizontally-disposed shelf compartments separated from each other by partition walls and having front open ends normally closed off by transparent doors which isolate the interiors of the shelf compartments from each other and from the interior of the room containing the cage rack. Each shelf compartment is sized to contain a row of horizontally-spaced animal cages having open top ends and closed bottom ends, with the open top ends spaced well below the ceiling of the shelf compartment. A low pressure air plenum extends vertically along one side of the cage rack and communicates with one side of each of said shelf compartments, the other sides of which contain air inlet openings communicating with the room interior, thereby providing a low-pressure negative air flow along the top open ends of the contained animal cages to said air plenum and then to a room exhaust system. The animal cage rack is provided with a watering system including an individual water dispensing valve for each of the contained animal cages, and each cage is provided with an access opening through which the animals therein may reach the respective dispensing valve. Each shelf is provided with a guide member for each animal cage stored therein, each guide member being precision formed to insure accurate registry of the access opening of the inserted animal cage with the respective water dispensing valve.

The compositions of the present invention have been found to exhibit spermicidal properties and, therefore, are particularly useful as a contraceptive. They are non-irritating towards vaginal tissues.
