摘要： An information processing apparatus stores configuration information including sets of version information of modules of firmware in the apparatus; obtains, based on the configuration information, firmware information including sets of version information of modules of firmware in a latest version; compares the sets of version information in the configuration information with those in the firmware information, and, when the sets of version information in the configuration information are not coincident with those in the firmware information, determines that it is possible to update the firmware in the apparatus; downloads the firmware in the latest version; and compares the sets of version information in the downloaded firmware with those in the configuration information, and updates only the module of the firmware in the apparatus for which the version information in the downloaded firmware is different from that in the configuration information.

A combining unit combines the image data accumulated in the accumulating unit in a single printing sheet according to a predetermined copy mode. An output unit prints and outputs the image data according to the copy mode. An input unit receives an input of a read instruction. When a total number of originals read by the reading unit is smaller than a total number of originals specified in the copy mode and when the input unit does not receive an input of the read instruction within a predetermined time, a discard determining unit discards the image data accumulated in the accumulating unit, and finishes a printing process.

摘要： A method of forming a highly oriented diamond film having a reduced thickness with a high quality at a low cost. Surface of a single crystal substrate is cleaned, and is then left in a high vacuum of 10.sup.-6 Torr or less at a temperature between room temperature and 800.degree. C. for 15 min for releasing gas molecules absorbed on the surface of the substrate. The surface of the substrate is then processed using carbon-containing plasma for forming a barrier of obstructing a carbon component within the substrate. After that, an electric field is applied across the substrate and plasma for allowing a current to flow thereacross for a specified time, to form nuclei of diamond for synthesis of a diamond film. Thus, highly oriented diamond particles or films, in which crystal orientations thereof are epitaxial to the substrate, are synthesized.
