    • The reuse partitioning problem for a cellular orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system with dynamic subcarrier allocation is considered. One objective is to allocate the network resources in an efficient way in order to maximize the system's total throughput under individual user's quality-of-service (QoS) constraint. A suboptimal two-step approach is used where the radio network controller (RNC) solves the network planning problem and each base station (BS) solves the cell throughput maximization problem. Compared with the optimal resource allocation scheme, the approach described herein has much lower computational complexity in the RNC. Moreover, the communication overhead between each BS and the RNC is reduced substantially which renders our approach more practical for delay sensitive applications. Throughput increase is demonstrated

    • The present invention uses a R-wave sensing algorithm that uniquely combines an automatic threshold adjustment method with a new noise rejection technique. This algorithm has significant advantages in avoiding the sensing of T-waves, P-waves, and noise/artifacts. Detecting the presence of noise bursts uses features that determine if an R-R interval adjacent to or within the noise signal is valid. Circuitry that discriminates noise signals from R-waves can use any one of several features including, but not limited to, the following: detection events occurring so close together that they are outside normal physiologic heart rates; frequency content that is wider than that of QRS complexes; amplitudes that are different than the adjacent or encompassing R-waves; and amplitudes that display greater than normal variability. The present invention employs multiple discrete thresholds optionally with different decay constants, alone or in combination with one or more substantially constant magnitude sensing threshold.

    • The present invention relates to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, and in particular breast cancer. Specifically, in some embodiments the invention relates to methods of diagnosing cancer, and in particular breast cancer, using an antibody specific for a gene product that localizes selectively to the endoplasmic reticulum of the cancer cell(s). In some embodiments, the invention relates to methods of treating cancer, and in particular breast cancer, by administering a composition comprising an RNA interference sequence (e.g., shRNA, RNAi and/or siRNA molecule) characterized by an ability to inhibit an mRNA molecule, which mRNA molecule is encoded by the C43 gene (SEQ ID NO: 1). The invention additionally relates to methods for detecting cancer cells by detecting reduced methylation of the C43 promoter, and methods for reducing cancer metastasis by using demethylation inhibitors that result in increased methylation of the C43 promoter. The invention additionally relates to an in vitro 3-dimensional assay for detecting migrating cells, identifying test agents and/or nucleotide sequences that alter cell migration.
