摘要： The present invention provides an apparatus for allowing the resurfacing a cylindrical member in a printer having a fuser member that is externally heated by a heater roller. The apparatus includes providing a cylindrical member having an outer surface of a high temperature fluorothermoplastic. When it is determined that the outer surface is in need of resurfacing, the fuser member is removed from the printer, and the cylindrical member is mounted in the place of the fuser member. The cylindrical member is rotated at a speed of at least 1 rpm while engaging the outer surface of the fuser member with the heating roller normally used to heat the fuser member at a pressure of at least 5 psi at a temperature of at least 10° C. below the fluorothermoplastic melting temperature for a time sufficient to resurface of the outer surface of the cylindrical member.

摘要： In an apparatus for printing images on a moving primary imaging member by jetting ink, containing a fluid and marking particles, in an image-wise fashion onto the primary imaging member, a device for concentrating the ink prior to transferring a marking particle image to a receiver member. The ink concentrating device includes a fractionating unit for separating fluid of the ink from the marking particles. The fractionating unit is located a predetermined spaced distance from the primary image bearing member. An electrostatic field is established between the primary image bearing member and the fractionating unit for concentrating the marking particles in the liquid of the ink.

A toner image is developed on the primary image forming member using a developer comprising dry toner particles having a mean volume weighted diameter D between 5 .mu.m and 10 .mu.m. The toner particles contain particulate addenda in a concentration range between (3.2/D)% and (5.6/D)%. The toner image is electrostatically transferred from the primary image forming member to an intermediate transfer member having a compliant layer, and then electrostatically transferred from the intermediate transfer member to a receiver.

摘要： Unexpectedly good transfer of electrophotographically-produced images using small toner particles occurs when the image is developed on an electrostatographic recording member, preferably an organic photoconductive element, which has been overcoated with a thin (about 10 nm to about 10 .mu.m thick) layer of a material having a Young's modulus greater than 10 GPa and preferably greater than about 100 GPa. The image is then transferred to an intermediate member which is comprised of an elastomeric blanket between about 0.1 and about 3 cm thick, having a Young's modulus between about 0.5 MPa and about 50 MPa, and preferably between about 1 and about 10 MPa, and having an electrical resistivity between about 10.sup.6 ohm-cm and about 10.sup.12 ohm-cm, by applying an appropriate electrostatic potential between the transfer intermediate member and the photoconductive element. The toned image is transferred from the intermediate transfer member to the receiver by applying an electrostatic field between the receiver and the intermediate transfer member. The blanket material comprising the intermediate transfer member should be overcoated with a thin (between about 0.1 .mu.m and about 25 .mu.m thick) layer of a material having a Young's modulus greater than about 100 MPa and preferably greater than about 1 GPa.

摘要： A method and apparatus for determining the charge-to-mass ratio of electroscopic toner particles of the type used in electrostatographic recording to develop electrostatic images. The apparatus uses a biased electrode for attracting toner particles thereto, and a microprocessor-based logic and control unit for sampling the mass of toner particles deposited on the electrode after the deposited toner particles have neutralized the electric field produced by the electrode bias. This toner mass information, together with certain toner constants and known parameters, is used by the logic and control unit to calculate the toner's charge-to-mass ratio. The output of the apparatus is useful for controlling process parameters (e.g. primary charging and exposure levels, development electrode bias, toner concentration) which affect image quality.

摘要： A process is provided for the non-electrostatic transfer of a toned image. Using an intermediate transfer roll from an element to a receiver, a developed toned image on the surface of an element is transferred by pressure and heat to a transfer roll. The heat is sufficient to sinter the toner particles to each other. The roll is then positioned against a receiver and rolled thereover and the toned image is transferred to the receiver. If the combination of heat and pressure is sufficient, the transferred toned image is fused to the receiver during the transfer; if not, then the transferred image can be subsequently fused to the receiver. The process is suited for producing high resolution images from very small particle size toner powder on rough paper.
