    • Information signals are reproduced from a disc-shaped recording medium which was accommodated within a case. The case has a jacket with space for accommodating the disc-shaped recording medium therein and an opening through which the disc-shaped recording medium can enter and leave the jacket. A lid member may be inserted through the opening of the jacket for covering and closing the opening. The apparatus for reproducing the disc comprises an inserting opening through which the case is manually inserted. A holding mechanism holds either the disc-shaped recording medium or the lid member at an innermost part of the reproducing apparatus and on the side opposite of the inserting opening. A turntable is located between the inserting opening and the holding mechanism. A push-back mechanism includes energy storing members which are urged responsive to a disc insertion operation in which the case is inserted through the inserting opening and into the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus. The case is pushed back responsive to a release of the pushing and inserting force acting on the case. The push back occurs in response to a use of the stored energy forces. The case is pushed back in a direction which is opposite to the direction of the insertion of the case, so that after push back a part of the case projects outwardly from the inserting opening.

    • The disc reproducing apparatus of the invention comprises low- and high-speed belt drive mechanism for playback and forward/backward operations. The latter comprises speed change means which in response to the operation of a feed-forward or a feed-backward button reduces its speed to a medium speed level suitable for searching a desired portion of the record grooves. A carriage on which a pickup arm with a needle is mounted includes a means for selectively seizing the low- and high-speed belts so as to be driven at the low or high speed relative to the turntable. A loop-and-finger arrangement is included to serve as a means for moving the pickup needle between upper and lower positions at a variable speed in response to the selective operation of the belt catch means. A manual control lever is provided to release the belt catch means to allow the carriage to be manually moved to the original position while at the same time to raise the needle to the upper position when the power supply is cut off during playback operations.

The reduced illumination time is set as a unit illumination time at the time of the recording of the halftone and the secondary scanning speed is reduced in correspondence with the rate of reduction of the unit illumination time relative to the normal illumination time value. Further, in the case that the recording operation is the screen percentage to be effected by the light spot only for the unit illumination time, the exposure is arranged so as not to be effected by the light spot, or arranged to be effected for the normal illumination time value.
