    • A method of dividing and separating a wafer having a plurality of devices formed on its front surface, which are separated by streets. The method includes applying a resist film coating to a portion of the back surface of the wafer other than an area corresponding to the streets, and plasma etching the area of the back surface corresponding to the streets to divide the wafer into a plurality of individual devices. The thickness of the resist film coating is adjusted in the coating operation to allow the resist film to be completely removed during the plasma etching.

    • A pipe joint has a joint main body, a union nut connected to the joint main body, and a lock ring. The lock ring has a tubular wall, and a first axial end and a second axial end of the tubular wall are deformable by inner walls of tapered hole portion of the joint main body and the union nut. The lock ring has a first tapered opening portion providing a first groove for receiving a first end of a first pipe member and a second tapered opening portion providing a second groove for receiving a second end of a second pipe member, in a radial inside of the tubular wall. A radial outer surface of the first tapered opening portion and a radial outer surface of the second tapered opening portion are tapered such that the first groove and the second groove are narrowed toward its ends, respectively.

    • A solid oxide fuel cell comprising an electrically conducting electrode-support substrate, an inner electrode layer, a solid electrolyte layer, an outer electrode layer and an interconnector, wherein said electrode-support substrate includes a flat plate having two flat surfaces which are in parallel with each other and forming a plurality of gas flow passages therein, and curved portions located at both ends of said flat plate, and said outer electrode layer is laminated on the solid electrolyte layer so as to be opposed to the other surface of said flat plate where the interconnector is not provided but so as not to be opposed to said curved portions.     • In an axial turbine wheel including a rotor disk and a plurality of turbine blades each having a base end retained by the rotor disk via a joint and extending radially from the rotor disk, a seal plate is received in outer and annular slots formed in the base ends of the turbine blades and rotor disk, respectively, and an annular shoulder is formed in the wall defining the inner annular slot on a side remote from the rotor disk, the annular shoulder thereby defining an inner narrow section and an outer wide section in the inner annular slot. Thus, the seal plate can be easily placed in position by first fitting the inner peripheral edge thereof in the inner narrow section of the inner annular slot, fitting the outer peripheral edge thereof in the outer annular slot until the inner peripheral edge clears the annular shoulder. Thereby, the outer and inner peripheral edges of the seal plate are received in the outer annular slot and outer wide section of the inner annular slot. The outer peripheral edge of the seal plate may abut the bottom of the outer annular slot so as to allow the seal plate to be firmly retained even when subjected to a large centrifugal force.
