    • An auxiliary brake system includes a turbocharger, including an exhaust turbine driven by exhaust gas supplied from an internal combustion engine, nozzle vanes disposed therearound at intervals for a vane-opening-degree adjustment, and an actuator for adjusting the vane opening degree; a compression-releasing engine brake unit for generating an engine brake force by discharging suction air compressed in a combustion chamber of the engine at the timing in the vicinity of compression top dead center; and an electronic control unit. This control unit actuates the engine brake unit when the engine is in a fuel-cut region, and rotates the nozzle vanes through an actuator so that the opening degree of each nozzle vane is smaller than that attained when the engine brake unit is disabled and meets an engine rotation speed. As a result, when the engine brake unit is in operation, the rotation speed of the turbine of the turbocharger increases within a range where the turbine rotation speed does not exceed a rotation speed limit, so that the supercharging degree in the turbocharger increases, whereby an engine brake action of the engine brake unit is enhanced to produce a required engine brake force, while improving the durability of the turbocharger.

    • First and second magnetic layers are respectively fixed in two positions on a peripheral face of a rotary shaft. A magnetizing pattern is preformed at a constant pitch solely on a magnetic face of the first magnetic layer. In a preparatory step, the magnetizing pattern is copied onto a magnetic face of the second magnetic layer, so that a torque detection step is started. In the torque detection step, there is detected phase difference between reproducing signals of two magnetic heads owing to the torsional deformation of the rotary shaft caused by torque. In addition, the number of rotations for a unit time of the rotary shaft is detected based on one of the reproducing signals. Consequently, the applied torque can be obtained by calculation based on the phase difference and the number of rotations for a unit time.

    • In an image processing apparatus, the amount of motion between a low-resolution image as a datum image and each of N low-resolution images is detected and, based on the detected amounts of motion, the datum image, and M consulted images (N>M≧1) selected out of the N low-resolution images, a high-resolution image is generated. An image evaluator, which selects the consulted images, takes each of the N low-resolution images as an evaluated image and arranges, based on the amounts of motion, the datum image and the evaluated images in a common coordinate system. Based on a pixel position on the datum image in the common coordinate system, a datum position in the common coordinate system is set. For each evaluated image, the distance from the datum position to a pixel position on that evaluated image is evaluated so that evaluated images corresponding to relatively small distances are selected as consulted images, while evaluated images corresponding to relatively great distances are excluded from the M consulted images.

A control method of a turbocharger with a variable nozzle, has a step which detects an idling state and a load state of an internal combustion engine, and a step which adjusts an opening degree of the nozzle in a region equal to or greater than a predetermined opening degree when the load state of the engine is detected, and which adjust the opening degree of the nozzle in a region smaller than the predetermined opening degree when the idling state and the non-load state of the engine is detected.
