摘要： A video projector has first and second projector devices and a display screen. The first projector device is used to project a plurality of first image elements to be perceived by, for example, the right eye of a viewer. The second projector device is used to project a plurality of second image elements to be perceived by, for example, the left eye of the viewer. The first image elements from the first liquid crystal projector device and the second image elements from the second liquid crystal projector device are projected on the display screen. The size of image elements projected on a liquid crystal display panel is adjusted so that the adjacent image elements do not overlap with each other. As a result, interference between adjacent picture elements is substantially eliminated and thus the image quality is improved.

In the refractive optics, a lens (non-circular lens) provided on a reflective optics side has a non-circular shape forming part of an imaginary circular region whose center is an optical axis center of the refractive optics. In other words, the non-circular lens has a shape of a cut-out portion of an imaginary circular lens having an optical axis center coinciding with the optical axis center of the refractive optics.

A wavelength-selective half wavelength plate for rotating a polarization direction of green light beams is disposed between a dichroic prism and the refractive optical system in such a manner that the polarization direction of the green light beams is in parallel to the shifting direction. Thereby, the green light beams are incident onto the refractive optical system as P-polarized beams, whereby a transmittance of the green light beams in the refractive optical system is increased, while suppressing lowering of the light amount of the green light beams, and color non-uniformity resulting from lowering of the light amount of the green light beams.
