    • An apparatus for evaluating the peel adhesion of a test specimen to a substrate. The apparatus includes a base plate having a surface for receiving the substrate; a substrate clamping plate for securing the substrate to the substrate receiving surface of the base plate; a test specimen clamping mechanism, the test specimen clamping mechanism having a first end for securing a first end of the test specimen thereto and a second end; and a pivotable linkage, the pivotable linkage having a first end for connecting to the second end of the test specimen clamping mechanism and a second end pivotably mounted to an adaptor, the adaptor in communication with a source of tensile force, wherein the source of tensile force is applied through or via the adaptor to draw the pivotable linkage and test specimen clamping mechanism away from the base plate and peel the test specimen away from the substrate. Also disclosed is a method for evaluating the peel adhesion of a test specimen to a substrate.

    • A cutting blade for a morcellator has a generally cylindrical shape and includes a sidewall having an inner surface and an outer surface, each of which at least partially resides respectively in concentric first and second cylindrical planes. The blade sidewall further includes a beveled or sloped surface that extends from the inner surface toward the outer surface to define a sharpened edge situated in the second cylindrical plane in which the outer surface of the cutting blade sidewall resides. The sloped surface is provided to protect the sharpened edge of the morcellator blade when it is not obvious to a surgeon operating the morcellator that a tenaculum used to grasp anatomical tissue at the surgical site may have its tissue grasping claws spread to such an extent that the claws may contact the cutting blade of the morcellator. Under such circumstances, the tenaculum will contact the sloped portion of the inner surface of the cutting blade, rather than the sharpened edge, thereby minimizing the chance that the sharpened edge will become dull or damaged.

    • A system and method for performing a surgical procedure that are based on delivering air to a surgical site to prevent contamination of a wound or surgical instrument. A curtain of air above the surgical site prevents pathogens or pathogen laden particulates eminating from sources such as the skin of health care professionals including operating room staff, room air, and ceiling from contaminating the surgical site. The curtain of air may be turbulent or laminar and heated or humidified with a solution of anti-microbial agent such as an antibiotic or anti-microbial such as triclosan. Optional incorporation of a UV or blue light source into the system may also prevent infection. The system is designed to be ergonomically compatible with existing surgical substrates such as a retractor, bed, or drape. Sources of sterile air can be brought to a manifold pivotably coupled to a shaft that is attached to a bedrail or instrument stand to deliver the air directly over a surgical site.
