    • A method for medical treatment includes beginning coagulating patient tissue using an energy-based clamp coagulator, determining the clamping force, and measuring the acoustic impedance of the patient tissue. The method also includes compensating the measured acoustic impedance for clamp pressure and monitoring the coagulation using at least the compensated measured acoustic impedance. A first medical treatment system includes an energy-based clamp coagulator, an acoustic-impedance measurer, and a force measurer. A second system includes an energy-based clamp coagulator having a clamping member which includes, or is adapted to function as, an electrical-impedance-measuring electrode for measuring an electrical impedance of the clamped patient tissue. A third system includes an energy-based clamp coagulator having a clamping member which includes, or is adapted to function as, a temperature sensor for measuring a temperature of the clamped patient tissue.

    • A high-speed ink jet printing apparatus adapted for use with a plurality of insertable print/cartridges and having a platen for transporting successive line portions of a print medium through a linear print zone, includes a carriage with a plurality of nests for supporting, positioning and electrically coupling respective print/cartridges in the printer, the nests being spaced along the transverse dimension of the linear print zone in a manner dividing it into a plurality of discrete transverse subportions of equal length. A traversing device reciprocates the carriage in forward and return directions parallel to the linear print zone. The movement of the traverse is approximately equal to the length of the print zone divided by the number of nest means of the carriage. The printer can include a sheet supply station, and a platen constructed to feed successive sheets from the supply station into a print path leading to the print zone and the carriage can include guides for directing fed sheets along the print path. The printer also includes a plurality of drop catchers located proximate the print zone at transversely spaced locations, and movable with respect to supported print/cartridges.

    • A high resolution ink jet printing system includes a plurality of substantially identical print/cartridges each having an orifice plate comprising: (i) an array of orifices located in a precisely interspaced relation and (ii) a detent means precisely located with respect to the orifice array. The system provides a carriage for insertably supporting such print/cartridges and for traversing them along a linear print zone in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of print medium feed. The carriage has reference surfaces for respectively positioning the detent means of inserted print/cartridges at predetermined locations that are precisely vertically offset relative to the direction of carriage traverse. In such system the printing droplets from the vertically offset orifice arrays of inserted and indexed print/cartridges will be vertically interlaced in each printing traverse of the carriage.
