    • An object of the present invention is to provide a heat sensitive recording material which can develop color at high density by the inclusion of a novel guanidine compound which is strongly basic and superior in diffusion resistance. The present invention for attaining the above-described object is a heat sensitive recording material comprising a substrate supporting thereon a heat sensitive recording layer containing a diazonium salt compound, a coupler which reacts with the diazonium salt compound when heated to develop color, and abase, wherein the heat sensitive recording layer includes as the base at least one of the guanidine compounds represented by the general formula (1): wherein, in the general formula (1), R1 and R2 represent an alkyl group or aryl group and may be the same or different, R3 and R4 represent a hydrogen atom, alkyl group or halogen atom and may be the same or different, and X represents a divalent connecting group.

    • Disclosed are a pyrrolopyrimidineone compound represented by the following general formula (1) and a heat-sensitive recording material using the pyrrolopyrimidineone compound as a coupler: General formula (1) wherein R1 and R2 each independently represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an aryl group, an alkyl group, a cyano group, an acyl group, a carbamoyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, an alkylsulfonyl group, or an arylsulfonyl group; R3 represents an amino group, a substituted amino group, a hydroxyl group, an acyloxy group, an arylcarboxyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an alkylthio group, or an arylthio group; R4 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, or an electron attracting group whose Hammett substituent constant &sgr;p is 0.2 or more; and L represents a substituent group which can leave when the compound reacts with a diazonium salt. The pyrrolopyrimidineone compound produces a good purple to cyan color hue and a sufficient color density.

    • An oxygen-sensing element particularly for use in the exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine. In one embodiment, the sensing element may be a tubular solid electrolyte body with a transverse web forming a relatively shallow recess at one end of the body and a relatively deep tube at the other. Separate electrodes are formed on the surface of the body proximate the recess and on both opposing sides of the web. A porous plug disposed in the recess covers one of the electrodes. When the electrode on the surface of the body is exposed to the exhaust stream of a fuel-rich air-fuel mixture, the EMF across that electrode and the electrode on the underside of the web, which is exposed to fresh air, is indicative of the oxygen content of the exhaust stream. When an exhaust stream from a fuel-lean air-fuel mixture is present, the magnitude of an oxygen pumping current that flows between the electrodes disposed on opposing sides of the web, in response to a voltage applied across those electrodes, indicates the oxygen content of the exhaust stream.The sensing element body may be conveniently formed from a slip prepared by ball milling yttria-stabilized zirconia powder with water and a binder. The slip may be cast in a mold or dried to form a flowable powder that is molded under pressure to form a green body. After calcining of the green body, electrodes are formed on the body by applying a platinum paste and heating it. A slurry of ball-milled calcined yttria-stabilized zirconia powder is disposed in the recess. The calcined green body and slurry are fired to produce a sensing element in which a tightly fitting porous plug, free of cracks and shrinkage away from the body, is disposed in the recess.
