    • Root apex position model data associated with electrical characteristic values between a measurement electrode and a mouth electrode in a state in which the distal end of the measurement electrode is located at a root apex position of a root canal is stored in a storage unit. A power supply applies measurement signals of 500 Hz and 2 kHz between the measurement electrode and the mouth electrode. Two different current values flowing between the measurement electrode and the mouth electrode are detected. These current values are compared with the root apex position mode data stored in the storage unit. If the root apex position data includes any data which coincides with the current values, it is detected that the distal end of the measurement electrode is located at the root apex position.

    • A powder sealing device of a powder beam processing machine including a processing chamber for processing a workpiece by jetting powder beams to the workpiece, includes: a thin film cylinder member for sealing a space between an operating shaft passing through an opening portion formed in a peripheral surface of the processing chamber and the opening portion; and a substantially cylindrical mounting bracket having a small chamber communicated to the processing chamber and mounted to the opening portion. The thin film cylinder member is formed of a flexible thin film material into a substantially conical shape, and has one end mounted to one end of the mounting bracket on the opening portion side and the other end mounted to the outer peripheral side of the operating shaft. When the processing chamber is in a negative pressure state, an intermediate portion of the conical thin film cylinder member is expandedly sucked inward of the small chamber without generation of any wrinkle, so that it is possible to structurally eliminate breakage of the thin film cylinder member and hence to prolong the service life of the powder sealing device.

    • The present invention provides an apical position detection apparatus for accurately detecting the fact that a measuring electrode arrives at the apical position.     • A novel substituted nigrosine dye represented by the formula D-R).sub.n wherein D is a nigrosine dye residue, R is C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkyl or alkenyl which may be straight or branched, or aralkyl or aralkenyl which may have a C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl substituent on the aryl moiety, the R in each case being the same as or different from the others, and n is a number of 1 to 4. The novel nigrosine dye is prepared by reacting a corresponding unsubstituted nigrosine dye with an alkyl halide, alkenyl halide, aralkyl halide, or aralkenyl halide, or with a mixture thereof, to form the substituted nigrosine dye. The novel dye has a high solubility in and compatability with organic solvents and/or resins and is oleophilic and stable and particularly useful for ink compositions and as a charge control agent for the toners of electrophotographic or electrostatic image developers.
