    • A silver halide photographic emulsion comprising epitaxial junction type tabular grains. The epitaxial junction type tabular grains each satisfying the following requirements (i) to (iv) occupy 100 to 50% (grain numerical ratio) of all the grains contained in the silver halide photographic emulsion: (i) host tabular grain is a tabular grain of silver iodobromide or silver iodochlorobromide having {111} faces as main planes and two parallel twin planes; (ii) at least one silver halide epitaxial portion is formed, per grain, only on a corner portion of the host tabular grain; (iii) a portion of an external surface of the silver halide epitaxial portion has a face parallel to the main plane of the host tabular grain; and (iv) a portion of an external surface of the silver halide epitaxial portion has a {100} face.

    • Disclosed is a silver halide photosensitive material comprising a support and a photosensitive layer formed thereon. The photosensitive layer comprises at least a photosensitive silver halide emulsion, a developing agent, a compound which forms a dye by a coupling reaction with an oxidized form of the developing agent, and a binder. The silver halide photosensitive material after the exposure thereof is put together with a processing material, which comprises a processing layer containing at least a base and/or a base precursor, in the presence of water supplied between the layer of the silver halide photosensitive material and the layer of the processing material in an amount ranging from 1/10 to the equivalent of an amount which is required for the maximum swelling of the total of the layers of these materials excluding back layers thereof, and these materials are heated to form a color image in the silver halide photosensitive material, in which the photosensitive layer comprises gelatin which is modified so that the interaction thereof with silver is reduced, and a silver halide emulsion in which tabular silver halide grains, each having an aspect ratio of 2 or more, account for 50% or more of the total projected area of the silver halide grains of the emulsion. Also disclosed is a method for forming an image by using this silver halide photosensitive material.

    • Disclosed is a method for producing silver halide grains containing tabular grains having a thickness of from 0.02 to 0.3 .mu.m and an aspect ratio (diameter/thickness) of from 2 to 50 at a proportion of from 75 to 100% of the total projected area of silver halide grains, which comprises at least nucleation, ripening and growing steps in a dispersion medium solution consisting of water and a dispersion medium, wherein gelatin having the following characteristics (a) occupies from 30 to 100 wt % of said dispersion medium used in said growing step:characteristics (a)the relation between the number percentage of a chemically modified --NH.sub.2 group in the gelatin and the methionine content of the gelatin is in the region a.sub.1 depicted in FIG. 1.Also disclosed is a silver halide emulsion comprising at least a dispersion medium and silver halide grains produced by the above-described method.
