    • An Apparatus and methods for communicating in a wireless access system using a medium access control protocol data unit (MAC PDU) is disclosed. The method comprises steps of receiving, by a mobile station (MS) from a base station (BS), a dynamic service addition request (AAI_DSA-REQ) message requesting to create a service flow, wherein the AAI_DSA-REQ message comprises a first MAC header type parameter indicating a type of a MAC header included in the MAC PDU of the service flow and a flow identifier (FID) identifying a connection associated with the service flow; transmitting, by the MS to the BS, a dynamic service addition response (AAI_DSA-RSP) message in response to the AAI_DSA-REQ message, wherein the AAI_DSA-RSP message comprises a second MAC header type parameter indicating the type of a MAC header included in the MAC PDU of the service flow; and communicating with the BS using the MAC PDU comprising the MAC header indicated by the second MAC header type parameter; wherein the MAC header type parameter indicates one of a generic MAC header (GMH) for general data packet transmission and a short-packet MAC header (SPMH) for small data packet transmission and a non-ARQ connection.

    • The present invention relates to a broadband wireless access system, and more specifically, to a reliable group resource allocation method and an apparatus therefor. A group resource allocation operating method of a terminal in a broadband wireless access system according to one aspect of the present invention comprises the steps of: receiving a message which includes group setup information from a base station; determining a channel identifier of a 1st map for group resource allocation received from the base station by using the group setup information; receiving a 2nd map from the base station which includes the channel identifier determined by the base station; comparing the channel identifier determined by the terminal with a channel identifier value included in the 2nd map; and transmitting an extended header which includes inconsistency information to the base station if the channel identifier of the 1st map determined by the terminal is inconsistent with the channel identifier value included in the 2nd map according to a comparison of the results.

The method differently defines operations of power saving modes of individual cases in association with message traffic distinguished from user traffic of a service, so that it can effectively reduce power consumption of the mobile station (MS). Firstly, the listening window of the power saving mode is used. Secondly, a method for transmitting a request message for pending the sleep mode is used. If the sleep-mode pending is requested, the sleep-mode resume message may be used in the case of a reactivation, or the reactivation can be automatically performed if a current time reaches a predetermined time.
