    • A cylinder head gasket includes a metal base plate; a combustion chamber opening provided in the base plate; a metal overlay surrounding the opening; and a weld bonding the overlay to the base plate. The weld is composed of a plurality of weld dots lying in a single row and being equidistantly spaced from one another. Each weld dot has a first diameter on a surface of the base plate and a second diameter on a surface of the overlay. The first diameter is smaller than the second diameter, and a distance between center points of adjoining the weld dots is greater than the second diameter of either of the adjoining weld dots.

    • A tracheal stent 1 is comprised from a plastic shaft 2 and metal clasps 5 which grasp the plastic shaft 2 ventrolaterally. The plastic shaft 2 is, cranially, lengthwise oval in cross section and, caudally, squarish-oval. It is comprised from thin highly-elastic and stable sheet and from clasps 5, whereby the clasps 5 are bound to the sheet. The clasps 5 can, in a first manifestation, be sufficiently compressed together over their free ends 6, 7 that the plastic shaft 2 is given as small an outer circumference as possible. In a second manifestation, the clasps 5 can be spread out by, for example, being heat activated. A stably-shaped and, in section 7', highly-elastic lumen 8 is formed in plastic shaft 2 which largely corresponds to the size of a lumen of a natural trachea.

    • The present invention relates to mesogenic, cross-linkable mixtures comprising (i) a cross-linkable liquid crystalline host compound comprising at least one cross-linkable liquid crystalline compound, and (ii) at least one chiral or achiral rod shaped additive component, wherein said additive component has a rigid core and comprises at least two fused or linked, optionally substituted, non-aromatic, aromatic, carbocyclic or heterocyclic groups, and also comprises at least one optionally substituted alkyl residue, and at least one polymerizable group and wherein the additive component has a transition temperature to the isotropic state of 40° C. or lower. The invention also relates to the novel chiral or achiral rod-shaped additive compounds used for the preparation of these mixtures, to mixtures according to the invention in form of an elastomer, polymer gel, polymer network or polymer film, to polymer networks and liquid crystalline polymer films prepared from these mixtures and to optical or electrooptical components comprising polymer networks and liquid crystalline polymer films prepared from such mixtures. Further, the invention relates to the use of the chiral or achiral rod shaped compounds as components of a cross-linkable liquid crystalline mixture in the production of orientated liquid crystalline polymers, to liquid crystalline mixtures comprising these compounds, to liquid crystalline polymers and liquid crystalline polymer networks prepared from such liquid crystalline mixtures, and to liquid crystalline devices comprising these compounds.

    • Disclosed is a method for mechanically connecting flat seals comprising at least two layers. In said method, the individual layers are placed in the area of a tool, at least one punch that has an approximately circular cross-section partially cuts the layers at defined points of the respective connection zone, and at least some of the remaining material is deformed outside the respective cut zone to form bent zones such that the respective cut zone is round and the respective bent zone is straight.
