    • An embedded control system capable of ensuring precision in arithmetic with data in the floating-point format and also avoiding a shortage of the storage area of a memory is provided.According to an embedded control system in the present invention, when discrete data in the floating-point format is stored in a read-only memory, the discrete data in the floating-point format is converted into data in a significand-reduced floating-point format before being stored. Here, a significand-reduced floating-point number is a number obtained by deleting low-order bits of the significand of a floating-point number. Further, an interpolation search is performed using discrete data, the discrete data in the significand-reduced floating-point format stored in the read-only memory is brought back to the discrete data in the floating-point format before an interpolation search being performed.

    • The present invention is directed to a method and apparatus for reducing the frame buffer size in a 3D graphics system. According to an exemplary aspect of the present invention, sorting and limiting the polygons that get processed at a given time may reduce the size of the frame buffer requiered in a graphics system. This may allow the system to process only those polygons that fall in one section of the screen. As a result, the system may not need to double buffer the whole screen. In a preferred embodiment, the location of the screen that gets processed may be arbitrary but should be preferably chosen so it is easy to sort the polygons and time-manage the process as the system needs to know when to swap from one location to another.

    • In a trouble diagnosis device for an exhaust gas return control system in which a returning amount of exhaust gas is changed at a predetermined value to obtain a variation between operating conditions of the engine under before thus changing and under after thus changing, and the variation is compared with a predetermined value, thereby to determine whether or not the exhaust gas return control system is out of order. A variation rate in the detection value of the operating conditions of the engine is obtained every predetermined period of time, and when the variation rate thus obtained exceeds a predetermined rate, the trouble diagnosis operation for the exhaust gas return control system is suspended.
