    • An air-cross-linkable lacquer binder comprising a copolymer of copolymerized units of from 10 to 40% by weight of glycidyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate or a mixture thereof, and 70 to 10% by weight of at least one other vinyl monomer which has been reacted with (based in each case on the quantity of lacquer binder) of from 0.01 to 30% by weight of at least one wood preservative having at least one glycidyl-reactive hydrogen atom and from 20 to 60% by weight of at least one air-drying natural or isomerized fatty acid and from 0 to 10% by weight of a dicarboxylic acid anhydride, said lacquer binder having an average molecular weight M.sub.n of from 1500 to 15,000 and an acid number of from 3 to 15. One special advantage of the lacquer binder according to the invention is that the wood preservatives are chemically fixed to the polymer molecule so that their release is retarded and the protective action is prolonged. Another advantage is the possibility to prepare well-drying wood preservative systems with lacquers which have not been treated with drying agents.

    • The lung inflation system specifically designed for use in the resuscitation of human beings. The system includes a manual compression bag which empties and refills through a single outlet opening. The compression bag is connected to a non-rebreathing valve which is specifically built, in accordance with the invention, so that the patient's lungs can be ventilated by means of the compression bag with pure oxygen, pure air, or a known mixture of both gases, as desired. The valve has a gas selector mechanism which makes it very easy for rescue personnel using the device to quickly select the mixture of gases which is needed. When available, oxygen from a pressurized oxygen source is supplied continuously to the valve device. The valve operates so that, when the compression bag is full, any excess oxygen being fed into the system is vented to the atmosphere through the same port as the one through which the breath exhaled by the patient passes. However, when the bag is compressed to inflate the patient's lungs, the exhaust port is closed so that the gases in the bag will flow only to the patient's lungs. When oxygen is not available the system operates to provide air for lung inflation.

    • A valve device includes a body member and valve members and is adapted for use in breathing apparatus, such as respirating apparatus, wherein sensitivity of operation enables a valve element to open and close effectively in response to relatively light fluid pressure. The valve device includes a tubular valve mounting member positioned in a valve chamber formed within the valve body and having first and second flanges of an elongated tubular extensible member seated on respective opposite ends thereof and positioned in sealing engagement with the body member. The extensible member has an end wall engageable with a valve seat formed by a tubular annular portion extending inwardly into the valve chamber from the body member and having an outlet opening therethrough and the end wall of the extensible member has ports therein for flow of fluid into and through the outlet opening when a valve element on the end wall of the extensible member is moved to an open position in response to fluid pressure in the extensible member. The end flange adjacent the end wall of the extensible member has a plurality of ports therein for flow into the valve chamber from the outlet opening and outwardly through an exhaust fitting when the valve element is seated on the end wall of the extensible member.
