摘要： The present principles provide a way to place a multilevel grayscale image, visible with the bare eye in the data area of an optical disc. This feature can be used to authenticate a legitimate disc, since the image features are lost when copying a disc either with a PC recording drive or by a pirate creating a data set to be used on a laser beam recorder to produce forged ROM discs. The modulation rules are selectively varied during disc writing in a way to change the distribution of pit/land lengths, so that the at least three (3) different diffraction properties are generated, and therefore produce at least three (3) distinct looks to the bare eye.

摘要： There are provided a method and apparatus for embedding a second level code into a first level code of an optical disc by data modulation rule variation. The apparatus includes a multi-level, varying rule based modulator (199) for modulating the first level code to obtain a channel bit stream representative of the first level code and having the second level code embedded therein. The multi-level, varying rule based modulator modulates the first level code using modulation rules respectively having different statistical properties of pit-land length distributions that preserve a readability of the first level code and that are distinguishable at readout of the optical disc. The different statistical properties represent binary or multilevel data of the second level code.

摘要： Adaptive cruise control (ACC) system for motor vehicles is provided, the ACC system having a sensor system for acquiring data concerning a target object and the own (host) vehicle, an actuator system for controlling the longitudinal movement of the vehicle, and a controller that intervenes in the actuator system within certain intervention limits in order to maintain a defined, controlled target distance from the target object, and an output device for issuing a take-over request to the driver if the controlled target distance cannot be maintained. The ACC system further includes a prediction system for predicting a conflict situation in which the controlled target distance cannot be maintained, in which case the take-over request is initiated before the conflict situation actually occurs.

摘要： In drives for optical storage media, a focus error signal generated by means of weighted addition from main beam and secondary beam focus error signals always contains an undesired component of the track error signal whenever the weighting factors are not exactly tuned to the optical and mechanical properties of the drive actually present and of the storage medium. The invention describes methods for tuning the weighting factors automatically to these properties. The methods are suitable for use directly after the insertion of the storage medium, while some can also be applied without interruption during the writing or reading operation.
