    • A method of cutting out blanks from workpieces of a sheet material comprises the steps of spreading the workpieces on a supporting surface of an imaging apparatus, manually marking the characteristic features of the workpieces to obtain markings, assigning a workpiece identifier to each spread workpiece, photographing the contour of the workpieces, the markings and the workpiece identifiers to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into a computer having a memory having stored therein data as to number, contour and quality requirements of the blanks, the computer computing a pattern on the basis of the entered and stored data, storing the computed pattern and allocating the stored pattern to the workpieces identified by the workpiece identifiers, placing a respective workpiece on a working surface of a cutting apparatus in a determined position, photographing the one workpiece and the determined position thereof to obtain corresponding data, entering the obtained data into the computer, the computer computing the determined position and selecting the stored pattern allocated to the one workpiece, repositioning the one workpiece in a position adjusted to the selected stored pattern, and cutting the one workpiece in response to a control program responsive to the selected stored pattern allocated to said workpiece.

    • An apparatus for rationally spreading a continuous length of different types of sheet material on a surface of a work table comprises a sheet material spreading carriage movable over the work table surface between a sheet material delivery station and a sheet material cutting station spaced therefrom, a cutting device arranged on the carriage behind the delivery position in the direction of supply of the sheet material for cutting the continuous length of sheet material spread on the working table surface into predetermined lengths, and a pressure roller mounted on the carriage and movable towards and away from the spread sheet material between an operative and rest position. The carriage comprises a supply of the sheet material, the sheet material supply including a rotatable storage drum, at least two drivable sheet material supply rolls rotatably journaled in the storage drum for supplying the sheet material and a sheet material clamp fixedly associated with each supply roll, the storage drum being rotatable into a sheet material delivery position wherein a respective one of the supply rolls and associated clamps are positioned adjacent the work table surface, the clamps being arranged to orient the sheet material supplied from the associated rolls at the delivery station to enclose an acute angle with the work table surface.

    • Flat work pieces can be rationally and carefully removed from a substrate to which they adhere with an apparatus which comprises a pickup table, a receiving table spaced from the pickup table, and a vertically adjustable tool carrier movable between the tables. The tool carrier carries a pickup device comprising a pressure platen configurated to conform to the flat work piece and having opposite ends, an adhesive strip extending over the pressure platen between the ends thereof, two guide rollers respectively recessed from the opposite ends of the pressure platen, the guide rollers being arranged to guide the adhesive strip under tension over the pressure platen, and two reeling drums receiving respective ends of the adhesive strip beyond the guide rollers and rotatable to displace the adhesive strip in an operating direction by reeling the adhesive strip on one of the drums and unreeling the same from the other drum. The tool carrier is arranged to be lowered until the adhesive strip contacts the flat work piece and then picks up the flat work piece from the substrate on the pickup table surface upon raising the tool carrier, to be moved to the receiving table with the picked-up flat work piece adhering to the adhesive strip and then to be lowered until the flat work piece rests on the receiving table surface, and the adhesive strip is displaceable parallel to the receiving table surface and in a direction opposite to the direction of the tool carrier whereby the adhesive strip is pulled off the flat work piece resting on the receiving table surface.

The control of the transverse movement of the tool slide is derived from the rotation of the chuck or of the means for rotating the same.

    • For making a nest of cuts (N) for cutting blanks out of flat, irregular workpieces (W), the contour (U) and the flaws (F) of the spread workpieces (W) together with a workpiece characteristic are detected by means of a digitizing unit (3), and the corresponding data are read into a computer (5), which on the basis of these data and the data stored in the computer (5) concerning number, shape and quality requirements of the blanks calculates and stores a nest of cuts and utilizes the detected workpiece characteristics of the workpieces (W) as a workpiece code for allocating the nests of cuts (N) to the respective workpieces (W). To provide for an economic nesting with an optimized detection of flaws and consideration of flaws, an interactive nesting is performed for selected partial areas (T) of the workpieces (W) prior to the automatic nesting on the part of the computer, in that images (B) of the blanks (Z) to be nested, which were provided by the computer (5) and can optically be superimposed on the workpieces (W) or an image of the workpieces, are positioned by specific control operations of the nester, preferably by control operations to be recognized by the digitizing unit, and are combined to partial nests (Nt) within the partial areas (T), whereupon the computer (5) calculates residual nests (Nr) for the remaining residual areas (R) of the workpieces (W), combines the residual nests (Nr) with the associated partial nests (Nt) and stores each of these combinations of partial and residual nests as nest of cuts (N) for the individual workpieces (W).
