    • A mechanical arrangement (1) for processing rod-like workpieces, especially pipes (2), has a processing device (20) for processing a workpiece, a workpiece-moving device (6) for moving workpieces (2) relative to the processing device (20), and a device (11) for supporting a workpiece in the direction of gravity. The device (11) for supporting a workpiece includes at least one support roller (13) which forms at its outer periphery a workpiece rest. The workpiece rest at the outer periphery of the support roller (13) extends about a roller rotation axis (14) of the support roller (13) at a changing centre distance. The support roller (13) is rotatable about the roller rotation axis (14) in a controlled manner and is thereby positionable in different rotational positions.

    • A work rest device for use with a crank pin miller comprises a pair of bodies, longitudinally and transversely movable saddles mounted on a bed, cutter main spindle boxes each having a cutter, said cutter main spindle boxes and said bodies being mounted on respective saddles, pawls disposed within each body to clamp main journal parts adjoining pin journal parts to be cut by said cutter, ring gears, and drive gears each having recesses and disposed within respective ring gear. The pawls are engaged with the respective recesses, and arranged to be moved back and forth by rotating the ring gear. The device further includes work main spindle boxes adapted to carry both ends of the work and having each a chuck. Arrangement is made such that the rotation of the ring gear is in synchronism with that of the associated chuck.

A crank-shaft chuck comprises a rotatable body 24 with a circumferential drive 40, 42 and an anvil 28 and a jaw 34 for gripping the work, the jaw being pivotable by a chordal slide 74 moved by a screw-and-nut mechanism 48, 77 driven by input and output pinions 60, 56 meshing with a ring gear 58 carried by a frame 20 coaxial with the body 24, the arrangement being such that, if the pinion 60 is driven with the body 24 stationary, it will rotate the ring gear 58 and cause the output pinion 56 to operate the jaw, but, if the body 24 is rotated by the circumferential drive and the pinion 60 idles, the output pinion 56 carries the ring gear 58 round with the body. The nut 48 carries a bevel gear 52 meshing with a bevel gear 54 on a shaft journalled in the body 24 and carrying the pinion 56. The nut is therefore rotated when the pinion 60 is driven through a clutch 66 and a motor 64. Crank-shafts may be loaded automatically.
