    • Methods for wellbore operations in an earth wellbore with tubing within casing in an earth wellbore, the wellbore extending down into earth from an earth surface, the tubing including a tubing string with a lower end and extending down within the casing with the lower end at a point above a lower end of the casing, a tubing-casing annulus between the tubing and the casing sealed by a first sealing apparatus, the method including sealing the lower end of the tubing string with a sealing device to prevent fluid flow therethrough, and sealing the tubing casing annulus with a second sealing apparatus above and spaced apart from the first sealing apparatus. In certain aspects the sealing apparatuses provide upper and lower spaced-apart primary barriers. The methods in additional aspects include making an exit opening through the tubing and an exit opening through the casing, each exit opening located between the first sealing apparatus and the second sealing apparatus. In other aspects the methods include drilling a lateral wellbore from the exit opening through the casing. Apparatus is disclosed that is useful in such methods.

    • A casing slip joint has been invented that has a first tubular casing member disposed around and releasably connected to a second casing member, the second casing member within and surrounded by the first casing member. Self-destructive shear screws according to the present invention releasably hold the first casing member to the second casing member. In one aspect, a shear screw according to this invention has an outer shear screw with a central recess and an inner member therein. In one aspect the outer shear screw is made of one metal and the inner screw is made of another so that contact by a well fluid sets up a galvanic cell that produces stress corrosion cracking in the outer shear screw that weakens it and/or destroys it. The propagation of such cracks is facilitated by placing one or more notches or recesses in the body of the components.

    • A new casing opening formation apparatus has been invented which includes an explosive charge and an apparatus for positioning the explosive charge in a casing in a cased wellbore at a desired location. In one aspect the apparatus includes a drill bit or other drilling device releasably connected to a bit diversion device; and in another aspect the apparatus includes milling apparatus for milling the casing. In one aspect the opening created is a radial ledge for facilitating casing penetration by a mill which mills out a window. In one aspect the opening created has such a radial ledge and includes a slot for inhibiting or preventing coring of the mill. In one aspect the opening created is such a slot alone. In one aspect the opening created is a completed window for sidetracking operations, no further milling is needed and drilling commences in the formation adjacent the explosively created opening. In one aspect the positioning apparatus is a whipstock and a mill is releasably secured to the whipstock to mill past a hole in the casing created by explosion of the explosive charge so that a desired casing window is formed in a single trip of the apparatus into the wellbore.
