    • A package apparatus includes a first conveyance unit and a second conveyance unit. The first conveyance unit is configured and arranged to convey a plurality of packaged objects in a first conveying direction. The second conveyance unit is provided below the first conveyance unit and configured and arranged to convey the packaged objects in a second conveying direction generally opposite from the first conveying direction. The second conveyance unit is configured and arrange to overlay each of the packaged objects received from the first conveyance unit on an adjacent one of the packaged objects such that the packaged objects are generally oriented in the second conveying direction to form a group of the packaged objects that is conveyed in the second conveying direction on the second conveyance unit.

    • A seal checker capable of reliably detecting a faulty seal at a vertical seal portion of a packaging bag or a portion thereof covered by the vertical seal portion is provided. A lower transfer conveyor conveys a packaging bag such that a vertical seal portion thereof moves along the conveyance direction. The upper and lower transfer conveyors sandwich and press the packaging bag therebetween. A servo motor detects the distance between the transfer conveyors when the packaging bag is pressed thereby. A control unit determines the seal properties of the packaging bag based on the distance detected by the servo motor. A gap is provided on a conveyance surface of one of the transfer conveyors to which the vertical seal portion faces, which extends in the conveyance direction and prevents the vertical seal portion from being pressed.

    • A product diverting mechanism used in a packaging system, which is effective to increase the speed at which the products are successively diverted, includes a force applicator for applying a force, including a force component acting in a horizontal direction, to the products transported from a preceding station, in a direction transverse to a direction of transport of the products, a suppressor disposed above a transporter for suppressing an upward shift of the products which occurs when the force applicator applies the force to the products, and an elevator for moving the suppressor up and down. The suppressor is lowered during an operation to divert the products so as to contact an upper surface of the products.
