    • There is provided a mold clamping apparatus which has a space-saving apparatus construction and can easily carry out mold replacement. The mold clamping apparatus includes: a base; a fixed die plate, fixed on the base, for mounting a fixed mold thereto; a movable die plate, disposed opposite the fixed die plate and movably on the base, for mounting a movable mold thereto; a mold opening/closing means for moving the movable die plate closer to and away from the fixed die plate; a plurality of mold clamping cylinders provided in the fixed die plate; mold clamping pistons fit in the mold clamping cylinders; a plurality of tie bars, each detachably mountable at one end to each mold clamping piston and penetrating the movable die plate and extending; a coupling means for releasably coupling each tie bar to the movable die plate at a position as determined depending on the sum of the thickness of the fixed mold and the thickness of the movable mold; and a tie bar retreating means which, when the movable die plate is in a backward position to form a space for mold replacement operation, moves at least one of the plurality of tie bars, which obstructs the mold replacement operation, backward to a retreat position.

    • Disclosed is a method for electric clamping, which performs a clamping process in parallel with a core-drawing-in process, avoiding damages of molds and core mechanisms and enabling secure clamping. The method comprises the steps of: setting a check point, for judging safety of the clamping process in advance, in a position that is nearer to the operational start position by a predetermined distance in the mold opening direction than a position of the movable mold when the core-drawing-in process is expected to be completed, wherein the core-drawing-in process and the clamping process proceed in parallel with each other in a straight course for reciprocating a movable mold; activating a core system and a servo-motor to start an operation to draw a core into a cavity in parallel with an operation to move the movable mold in the mold closing direction; detecting whether or not the movable mold reaches the check point; judging whether or not the core reaches the position in which the core is fully drawn into the cavity at a point of time at which the movable mold reaches the check point, and confirming the completion of the core-drawing-in process. Thereafter, the clamping process of the molds is further continued if confirming that the core-drawing-in process is already completed.

    • The present invention provides a die plate and a mold clamping apparatus equipped with the die plate for a die casting machine and so on capable of reducing dimensions of die length as small as possible.A fixed die plate FXPL and a moving die plate MVPL of a mold clamping apparatus on a base BS place a versatile main mold inside, respectively. A pair of insert dies FINS and MINS is carried in to a mold opened space without disturbing tie bars TBU or TBD located in an upper portion or a side portion. The pair of insert dies are separated and fastened to each of the versatile main mold. The die length becomes zero or very small when the moving die plate positions at a mold closing position, and as the result dimension of the mold clamping apparatus in the direction of mold opening and closing can be shortened. Also, particularly the moving die plate can be avoided to tilt.
