The cantilevered support structure is umbrella-shaped to create an area of space between the rotor and the main shaft where other vehicle components, such as a gear set or system of clutches, may be packaged. The cantilevered support structure may be a true cantilever or a steady-rested cantilever. The support structure maintains the rotor at a distance from the transmission main shaft to maintain torque within the system while compacting packaging requirements. A second cantilevered support structure is wineglass-shaped to create a second area of packaging space between the rotor and the main shaft. The support structures may be telescoped to further compact the transmission.

摘要： A compound-split electrically variable transmission has two electrical power units, two planetary gearsets, a prime mover, and two selectively engageable torque-transmitting mechanisms. The torque-transmitting mechanisms are selectively engaged to provide a reverse and first range and a second range of operation, wherein the reverse and first range is an input-split range of operation and the second range is a compound-split range of operation. The torque-transmitting mechanisms are simultaneously engaged at an interchange point between the first and second ranges of operation. This interchange point is a synchronous speed interchange point, such that the torque-transmitting mechanisms are engaged and disengaged without slipping forces being transmitted.

摘要： A two-mode, compound-split, electro-mechanical transmission utilizes an input member for receiving power from an engine, and an output member for delivering power from the transmission. First and second motor/generators are operatively connected to an energy storage device through a control for interchanging electrical power among the storage device, the first motor/generator and the second motor/generator. The transmission employs three planetary gear sets. Each planetary gear arrangement utilizes first, second and third gear members. At least one of the gear members in the first or second planetary gear sets is connected to the first motor/generator. Another gear member in the second and third planetary gear arrangement is connected to the second motor/generator. One of the gear members of the first or second planetary gear sets is continuously connected to one of the gear members in the third planetary gear set. Another gear member of the first or second planetary gear set is operatively connected to the input member, and one gear member of the third planetary gear set is selectively connected to ground. A lock-up clutch selectively locks two of the planetary gear sets in a 1:1 ratio.

A seal-engaging ledge also extending along the receptacle in stepped relation relative to the supporting ledge. A sealing gasket overlies the mounting flange and the seal-engaging ledge, and a retainer plate is demountably secured to a closure face on the receptacle to compress the sealing gasket against the mounting flange and the seal-engaging ledge to preclude the admission of foreign materials between the mounting flange and the receptacle.
