摘要： A stylus suspension for a phonograph pick-up cartridge. A first improvement includes an asymmetrically mounted ring and washer clamping the suspension block in a manner that dampens vertical compliance of the suspension. A further improvement includes a suspension block specifically adapted to accommodate the ring, thus more particularly defining the pivot point. In this instance the ring may be mounted symmetrically or as in the first improvement. A still further improvement includes an armature of reduced mass that, surprisingly, does not result in lessened performance.

The stylus projects distance l between the lower end face of the shank and the extreme tip of the stylus tip portion, which projection is as small as possible. The burnishing angle .beta. has a value substantially within a range of 25.degree. to 40.degree.; the burnishing facet width d is substantially within a range of 0.5 .mu.m to 3.0 .mu.m; the relief angle .gamma. is substantially within a range of 30.degree. to 40.degree.; and the stylus projecting distance l is substantially less than 2.0 .mu.m.

Preferably, the remainder of the surface of the pickup is also covered with such a coating, with the exception of the scanning surface of the scanning element.
